They played Tulane 8 f*ucking times from the 1960's forward but could not do 1 home and home with Vanderbilt? If your theory was correct they would have started playing Vanderbilt from like 1900 on or at least the 1920's on.
In 100 f*cking years you can play 50 erudite schools and Vanderbilt would have been on this list before many currently in the AAU. Vanderbilt was admitted to the AAU in 1950 when it had only about 30 members. Tulane was admitted in 1958 and Stanford started playing them in the 1960's.

Year in year out, Stanford plays a harder schedule than Vanderbilt. They play 9 conference games plus Notre Dame every year... and they rarely if never play FCS teams.
Vandy, otoh, plays four cream puffs a year OOC... they current OOC scheduling under Franklin and now Mason is beyond pitiful.
The whole schedule argument doesn't hold water

They still haven't played Virginia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Rutgers, and Maryland. It's a big list.
They've got games slated with Vanderbilt in 2021, 2024, 2025, 2027.

This year Vandy played the toughest OOC schedule in the SEC, 2 conference champions and another bowl team.

Vanderbilt has minimal experience against Pac-12 opponents and teams from California. Vanderbilt's only previous game against a Pac-12 team came on Oct. 14, 1961 when the Commodores lost 28-21 to nationally ranked UCLA in the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Maybe it's a Vanderbilt thing…?

The bottom of the PAC has been historically worse than the bottom of the SEC and the top of the SEC has been harder than the top of the PAC.

While I will concede Vanderbilt plays better academic schools in the OOC I would not say they reach the cream puff level of say Baylor. Michigan will schedule Vanderbilt in Ann Arbor but will not return the trip to Nashville. In the 11 ages between them, 8 have been played in Ann Arbor and only 3 have been played in Nashville (1907, 1913, and 1922).

Yeah, well, that's just the way it goes sometimes...
All-time winningest program and biggest stadium in the country vs. sub .500 winning % with a capacity of 38,000 that no one shows up to.
I feel as if we're doing Vanderbilt a favor by playing them in The Big House.

Academically you can compare the two schools... with obvious edge to Stanford in name recognition but overall both schools have very high academic standards.
Comparing Stanford and Vanderbilt in Athletics is hard to do.. First off, Vanderbilt doesn't have the national name recognition as Stanford. Vanderbilt also has to recruit against all SEC/ACC/Big 10 schools for there athletes. Second, playing FB in the SEC isn't easy no matter who you play. Quality players get drafted every year to the NFL. Third, Vanderbilt does succeed in other sports like Basketball and Baseball. Football in the SEC is brutal every year.

Vanderbilt Athletics Director David Williams II said playing schools like Stanford makes sense for the Commodores.
"We have been working to put this series together for quite some time," Williams said. "This game is a natural because Stanford is also an academic institution playing football in a strong conference.
UCLA never gave Vanderbilt the return trip to Nashville and only Stanford in the PAC was a private with concentration on academics. Southern California is private but football has always been a big deal to the Trojans.

How gracious, too bad you would not do the return trips back when Vanderbilt had the good football teams and similar football following. The 1922 game in Nashville was a 0-0 tie and the game in Nashville in 1907 was a close game. Michigan only won in Ann Arbor by 6 in 1906, 1 in 1911, and 3 in 1923. Vanderbilt until the 1930's was a solid football team in the south, winning a dozen or so conference championships before the SEC was formed.
They made Texas quit them at the State Fair and Oklahoma was played in their place. Dores are 8-3 if memory serves against the folks in Austin.

What are folks hating on poor little Vandy?

I find it hard to believe that UA or LSU wouldn't start the season somewhere like ATL or Jerry World vs. Stanford. Esp when UA had played a legit OOC game in a kickoff classic game almost every year since Saban has been the coach. I don't work in the UA AD so I'm not privy to who they talk to or try to schedule but I believe UA plays So Cal next year to start the season. Arkansas also unfortunately played So Cal a few years back, and LSU played Oregon so other PAC schools are playing top tier and whatever tier Arky is on in OOC games.
To be honest, the bowl game I most look forward to other than the playoffs is Stanford vs. Iowa. I love old school football (not Big 12 spread shite) and that game should be right up my alley.

But they have played other ACC and B1G schools. As for the current SEC they have played NADA, ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH at any SEC's home. Are you really saying to me Stanford has never played any ACC or B1G schools on their turf in 100+ years?

i'm pretty sure vandy has no AD. they disbanded it some years ago and I haven't heard they added it back.
This is what I was thinking. I remember when Vandy did away with their AD and didnt hear that they had reestablished it.
Also, people talking about Vandy needing money from donors, boosters, more ticket sales, etc. What are they doing with their share of the eleventy billion dollars the SEC bowl teams are bringing in as well as the SEC network, etc. I highly doubt they are cash poor. I realize they don't bring in the kind of $ a UA or LSU does from football ticket sales, merch, etc. But they get their cut of the SEC money same as all the other schools. I guess they just spend it on that fricked up basketball court and baseball.

Haven't they owned USC the last few years? Beating them back to back under Pete Carroll? Certainly they have been superior since the NCAA prison raped USC and Carrol split.
