For half the SEC, adding another conference game that replaces a rent-a-win is a likely extra loss. The coaches and AD's don't trust the public enough to understand the difference between a 8-4 season with an easy schedule and a 7-5 season with a harder schedule. 8-4 keeps your job at MSU or Kentucky. 7-5 seasons start hot seat discussions.
On the other spectrum, the Big 6 already know they can get 1 or sometimes even 2 SEC teams in the playoffs with an 8 game conference schedule. They see no reason to add the risk of an extra loss that might bump them out. Saban talks a big game about wanting more SEC games and harder schedules, but he only very recently started scheduling 2 quality non conference games like UGA and Florida routinely do. For most of his time at Alabama he had an unwavering devotion to the strategy of avoiding optional games he felt had high loss potential. If you wanted to play Bama, we were not coming to your place for an early season night road game.

Simple - figure out the ideal # of teams & we can discuss schedule. The problem for 9 (or any odd #) games is always going to be the # H/A games.
Then you also have to factor in the 4 SEC East teams with in-state rivals.....as well as those (like UGA) who have 7H games each year.

UGA
10 - SEC games
1 - COFH (Ga. Tech)
1 - anybody
Yeah, that looks good for us.

As for this year's rush schedule, Sankey has bent over backwards to explain how his committee rendered the schedule with great difficulty because of not wanting to hurt traditional games, off week, etc, etc.
Yet DSOR isn't in Nov.
WLOCP isn't the week of Halloween.
TSIO isn't 3rd Sat. in Oct.
IB isn't the last game of the season for Ala./Aub.
Egg Bowl isn't the last game of the season for Miss./MSU
Seriously, an all SEC schedule & these 5 AREN'T in their traditional spots???

Sounds like the Swamp Rat's excuse for never leaving Florida.

Maybe Bama should get on the home and home action against sisters of the poor. Football might become enjoyable again.
Alabama has home and home series with Texas, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Florida State, West Virginia, among others the next several years.
Welcome to 21st century scheduling... amirite? A couple decades in... better late than never, no?
