And our TE had more rec yards then your top WR different offense.

I'm not saying that, just wondering how he stacks up as far as running it. Someone else was talking about how good of a runner Dobbs was, and I think Kelly will stack up rather well.

I think he does too, although too be fair, teams gameplan against Dobbs, they know he's gonna run. If I'm not mistaken, Kelly scrambles more often than he has designed runs.

Teams are not scared of our passing game, why would they be? But Ole Miss actually has a potent passing attack, opponents have to respect the WRs and TE, which opens up the field for Kelly to run.

now you just need a defense that doesn't fold like a wet paper bag when the games on the line

To be fair, they did make the game winning stop against UGA and USCe (even those teams got down the field a bit). But yeah, we had a problem with that, and that's a large part of the reason why we made the DC change in spite of only allowing 20ppg last year. Jancek was a pretty good DC, but our defense under him consistently struggled to get stops late in close games, and with a season coming up where we have a chance to potentially do big things, Butch decided we couldn't afford more of that this year.

Yes he is a TE that is split out most of the time. It's not something new and it's what he will be drafted as by the NFL and play in the NFL. So yes he is a TE. But how about this our player with the 5th most rec yards has more then your 1st. Like I said different offenses.

To be fair to Janeck, how much of that is on him and how much of that is on depth? Tennessee had high rankings, but you signed 32 kids in 2014 and 30 kids in 2015. I cannot imagine all those kids remained, so I have no idea how many 4* and 5* you actually had in your 2-deep on defense the past few years.

We had some depth issues last year, although they weren't as pronounced as the previous few years. Our main problem (particularly earlier in the year) was that in a lot of positions, there was a significant drop off from the starter to the backup, so we'd overplay the starters and they'd be winded come 4th quarter crunch time. Part of it was coaching mismanagement, but part of it was just our roster situation at the time. We also had players on defense (particularly DB's Malik Foreman and Emmanuel Moseley) who were forced into PT earlier than we wanted them to be, and they were liabilities early in the season, to the point I cringed when I saw them on the field. Both improved, and were solid by the end of the year, in fact, Foreman made the play (a forced fumble deep in UT territory with <1 min remaining) that may have saved us from a disastrous loss to USCe. Both had a pick in our bowl game. Lastly, I don't think Curt Maggitt's loss can be overlooked. Not only was he a beast and a tackle machine, he was the heart and soul of our defense, and we lost him for the year early in the week 2 game vs OU. I think his presence would have quite possibly won us a game or even two that we lost.
