You just dont see much creativity in running attacks anymore. These players have seen and defended the same shotgun running plays for years. Misdirection just seems easy to read for these players. I also think most running backs just lack the vision and burst that good running backs used to have.
It ultimately goes back to high school offenses.
*Go back and watch youtube videos from a great running back of your team from the past. The running ability just dwarfs thats of good RBs now

The lines are where player development really matters. The offensive line more so than the other side of the ball. Programs are no longer really afforded the opportunity to develop talent within their systems. The portal gives little continuity from year-to-year, and offensive lines need that continuity more than maybe any other position group. Quality depth is also much harder to build, so injuries have a much greater impact.
