because it's a huge national story that involves an SEC team? are you fricking serious with that question?

Agreed...ppl need to realize who pays for that and need to start thinking outside of the box.
I'm resisting the urge to go on a penal system tyrade but I will say there are more nventive ways of punishment.

This guy gets it. The rest of you idiots are overreacting. Make him go to a mental institution or trailer arrest. Taxpayers should not have to foot the bill for his stupid arse.

quote:Yeah, that wasn't it. The guy was ostracized by Alabama and the fanbase and continues to be. And it certainly wasn't the controversy's staying power that diminished my sympathetic viewpoint. It was the Auburn fans constantly screaming for this mentally ill, stupid man to burn in hell and the persistent taunt of "this represents all of you!" which we all know is asinine.
Then, when the controversy didn't pass as quickly as you liked, rather than further alienate the perpetrator, you take some ridiculous partisan line that only strengthens Harvey's tie to your fanbase.
quote:I should've been clearer. I only meant this inasmuch as he claims to be a Bama fan, and it's become completely impossible and pointless to try to get AU fans to differentiate between him and the fanbase at large.
The fact that you even admitted you have a dog in the fight is a self fulfilling prophecy.
quote:I'm not hoping for anything except that the punishment fit the crime.
But you're taking the wrong path by hoping he gets off easy, which is telling.
quote:You brought this on yourselves with your severe overreaction. It's apparent you're all only acting this way because he claims to be a Bama fan. If one of your own fratboys had done this as a drunken prank, you wouldn't be so vitriolic and draconian in your collective revenge fantasy.
If you and many other posters didn't seem so interested in mocking Auburn fans through this
quote:I did and I find it amusing you think you have me all figured out.
Think about it.

Stand at Toomers Corner for a week and let everyone in Auburn have a chance to kick him in the balls, throw fruit at him, etc.

No, its not.
I live in Atlanta and nobody is taling about hits.
This is not on Sportscenter.
The triple homicide on campus was a national story.

When there are folks in New Orleans stopping him for pictures and autographs...you are right it is.

The kid at UAB?
I have not heard so I assume he survived or they would have added a 4th murder charge.

I listen to Sports talk radio in Atlanta every single day. And trust me, they talk about it.

I believe this is also his second or third felony as well. And yes they are trees, but it is more about vandalism or destruction of property, and the value of that property and the cost to fix will escalate it to the point to where it is a major crime.
I think he should be sentenced to at least 5 years(taking into account this is not his first rodeo with felonies) but have him only serve a year at most with the rest of the sentence held if he keep his nose clean.
Pay full restitution and be heavily fined, along with several hundred hours of community service.
I think that is more than fair for a person who has committed felonies in the past as well as committing multiple felonies with a malicious act

Nothing serious, I think he's a good guy but he's just misunderstood.
He's just got too much bama in him. What he did could have easily been any bama fan.

Erroneous. This a-hole embarrassed the whole SEC.
It's not the fact that nobody was ACTUALLY hurt that can justify extremely lenient punishment. He maliciously spread a very dangerous chemical in a highly populated area. The fact that nobody was hurt could be a mitigating factor, but I think he should spend some time, possibly 1-2 years.
And yes Genro, we punish people for crimes as a deterrent.

No doubt. But no one was hurt. No one was robbed of anything tangible. If someone vandalized Denny Chimes or the Bear Bryant statue, I would say the same thing.
Fine him. Make him make a contribution to Auburn University. But significant prison time is absolutely ludicrous.
I almost agree with this. Ban him from ANY college football game. EVER!

Hell I didn't know this was his third felony. Try for repeat offender status if one of the felonies was violent = life without parole (at least that's the law here, i think)

The fact that nobody was hurt is dumb-luck. based on his background, he is not an expert in handling chemicals. He could have easily hurt someone...some kid or college student that populates the area around Toomers. That will be why the book gets thrown at him...not some "unfair trial."
