Regrettably our once prominent herds of Hippies have been driven to near extinction. There is still quite a lot to do and see on Dickson but it just isn't the same without watching the interactions of the Hippie economy (based solely on bumming cigarettes off one another).
It does, however, smell much nicer without them.
Also, if you like craft beer, we have some very good local breweries if you want to slip in and do some research on the local beer scene.

The hippies aren't gone, just endangered. You'll still find an impromptu drum circle and the occasional fire eater. Lamas haven't been seen on Dickson in nearly a decade.

I grew up in Arkansas and live in Fayetteville now, but lived in Chicago for several years and have visited every major city in the country except Boston and Minneapolis/St Paul and I don't much care for Little Rock
To each his own. I lived there for 35 years and find it to be a cool city, of course I know where to go and where not to go.

Yeah, Little Rock is actually pretty nice for the most part. Underrated town, IMO. If you're scared of seeing any black people whatsoever, then its probably scary.

Fayetteville is criminally underrated
Generally, yeah. I didn't appreciate Fayetteville until I started visting a lot of other college towns. Its a good one.
For anyone who visits, I'd recommend the quick 5 minute (if that) drive up to one of the Mount Sequoyah overlooks. Until you do that, I don't think you really "get" Fayetteville. It is 5 blocks off the main drag, and you feel like you're far off out of town. Plug it into your GPS and prepare to get some cool pics for Instagram.
Here's the main one, "the Cross":

Here's the secondary one, not as far up:

Yep, that's the simplest, quickest way to get some perspective on the landscape, and understand the importance of the natural surroundings to the whole "vibe" of Fayetteville. It probably takes about 3 minutes to get to the top once you leave College Ave, if you go up Spring Street.

We must have started a captive breeding program to keep their numbers up. That's good to hear, it isn't quite the same without them.

Hipster-ville has moved southside some, where the rents are cheaper. Ever been to Bear's on 15th, or Nomad's music lounge, or any of the ethnic restaurants down there?

No, but I hear some of the ethnic restaurants in that area are great to eat at. I really should get off my lazy duff and check them out soon.
