If a person hits you, the question of what type of response is reasonable should still apply RE: both common sense and legal responsibility.
He used far more force than he needed to in order to be sure of his safety. A return shove would have been no foul IMO. What he did put her life at some risk.
FWIW, I do agree in principle that the same logic applies if the person knocked out is a regular sized woman or a smaller guy. If they don't really pose a threat to you and you really unload on someone your use of force is not reasonable and should result in legal consequences.

The girl and her friend were minding their own business in the restaurant. Mix on comes up to them and gets in their business. All she does is push him in the chest, and he cold cocks her in the jaw.

I agree with bamasgot13, my dad was an old marine two wars and did time with the marine raiders (Marine version of seals, disbanded after wwII) I saw him knock a guy out cold for hitting a woman, I don't think anybody giving their opinion is trying to be an internet badass but I myself could not have just watched a female being punched like that.
