IMO, McElwain could learn a lesson or two from Malzahn. Watching these "gimmicky" plays is mindblowing considering McElwain runs the most predictably simple offense in America. Ironically enough, his playcalling is eerily similar to Mike Shula's - only Shula's offenses weren't loaded with talent.

I'm gonna keep tooting Gus' horn on here (no homo) because he has done a hell of a job and is a great coach.
This video is retarded though.
Like many have said, Bama has been running those plays before Jay Jacobs got heckled at the airport.
Gus' is different because of what and how he does on offense. It's genius, but at the same time it looks nothing like what goes on in college and pro football.
It works though and that's all that matters.....unless you are recruiting and then it just doesn't get guys ready for the NFL.

Shula's offense was 100% pro style. There were very little spread or shotgun formations associated with it, with lots of single and two-back sets. McElwain's offensive playbook is WAY more multiple than Shula's was.
And if you think McElwain's offense is the most predictably simple offense in the United States then you are woefully ignorant about the game of football. Try looking at highlights of Alabama's offenses from the Gene Stallings era. Heck, try looking at highlights from Georgia Tech these last two or three years.

I think most fans miss the major point that this really isn't all Jim McElwain, good or bad.
The offense didn't change a ton between Major Applewhite and Jim McElwain. And if you really want to dig, look LSU from 2000 to 2004. LSU was running that speed sweep with Skylar when Malzahn was coaching private school ball in Arkansas.
The offense is dictated to whoever the OC is and that's the way it's always going to be. We will always have a ton of sets with 2 TE. We will use a lot of empty sets. We will start off games throwing the ball all over the place and in the 2nd half play smash mouth. And more than anything, we will be known as a power football team that plays to it's defense.
Like it or not, that's the way it's going to be. There was the same bitching from the BenchMcElroy's and Brad Pitt's of the Alabama fanbase when Gene Stallings was winning 70 games in 7 years. Then Mike Dubose hired Charlie Stubbs.
Fans will never be happy, even if we have back to back record breaking years. It's the nature of our fanbase.

Also.....
You guys just won the national championship for the first time in over 50 years. You employed one of the greatest players in SEC history. You made the 1999 Rams envious of your offense. You made the greatest comeback in Iron Bowl history.
But you just can't get away from comparing yourself to Alabama. You can see why people laugh at Auburn right?

Nah bro, I'm just pointing out to Bama fans who aren't bright enough to realize Bama run the same type of plays AU does, but they call AU's offense a gimmick.
Because bama fans never ever compare themselves to lil brother, right?

Well played. Can I get one of Cam not under center at the end of a game? You know, a formation in which a AU QB will find himself this year...

There are a couple, most of the time it was a speed sweep to Onterrio.

He may have taken some, but it was very few.
Whether they are right or wrong, it is an issue to NFL GM's and coaches. Obviously, Cam was so talented in the eyes of the Panthers that it outweighed the issue of playing in that type of offense.
IMHO, JPW nor McElroy would've gotten a chance in the NFL had they have been in Chris Todd's shoes. They are NFL ready because of where they played and not because of their talent.

No. I am asking did Cam take any snaps under center when it counted. What is being inferred is that a AU QB will not find himself under center any signifigant period of time this year.

Yea since Cam and Blaine Gabbert were both taken in the top 10 of the NFL draft it is a huge issue.

Chris Todd didn't get taken because he has a noodle for a shoulder after surgeries.

You guys can't be this dumb. Bama occasionally runs misdirection plays just like basically every team in the country. But that is not our base offense. You can find 4 or 5 plays from Bama's 2010 season, put only them in a video and claim they run any offense in the nation besides the wishbone.
