It's a dirty game. Some coaches do the transition better (less slimy) than others but there is no good way to abandon a football program for another.

I think the State Penn job is the only job for which Franklin would have left. It is a step up from Vandy in terms of fan support and program prestige, but he will take this job because he has ties to the university and the state.
Sucks for Vandy fans, but Penn State is probably his dream job. I really don't think he would have left for any other job.
