I'm not a fan of CUM, but his team did win the game. Your post (and Kiffin's new comments) do nothing but diminish UT's effort on Saturday. Let others judge CUM by what he said. I was impressed with what you guys did.

Still hate you, but props are deserved.

With 5 minutes left in the game and down by 10 (with all three timeouts) here is the play by play

1st and 10 at TENN 32 Jonathan Crompton pass complete to Kevin Cooper for 1 yard to the Tenn 33.
2nd and 9 at TENN 33 Jonathan Crompton pass complete to Jeff Cottam for 4 yards to the Tenn 37.
3rd and 5 at TENN 37 Jonathan Crompton pass complete to Gerald Jones for 8 yards to the Tenn 45 for a 1ST down.
1st and 10 at TENN 45 Bryce Brown rush for a loss of 1 yard to the Tenn 44.
2nd and 11 at TENN 44 Jonathan Crompton pass complete to Quintin Hancock for 7 yards, fumbled, recovered by Tenn at the Tenn 49.
3rd and 6 at TENN 49 Jonathan Crompton pass incomplete.
4th and 6 at TENN 49 Timeout TENNESSEE, clock 02:00.
4th and 6 at TENN 49 Jonathan Crompton pass intercepted by Ahmad Black at the Fla 26, returned for no gain to the Fla 26.

On the prior drive from our own 37 it took us 3:26 to run the ball 63 yards. How when we took it to the air with 5 minutes left was UT "playing not to lose". Based on the play by play and having watched the game sober yesterday, going to the air was exactly how to LOSE the game. With three timeouts left why didn't UT run the ball, score another TD, try for an onside or at worst kick off, put it on the defense to hold and use the timeouts to kill the clock and hope something happens on special teams or then at the very last resort go with Crompton to the air.

Saying Tennessee wasn't playing to win is just total bullshite. If anything, they went to the air too early.

I can see it both ways. I think the lack of no-huddle was what surprised us.

ETA: The only issue I have with your reasoning is counting on an onside kick. I don't know the stats but they can't be successful very often.

And for those who wanted to know what Meyer's exact Flu quotes were.

"It is a panic level of proportion I've never seen before," Meyer said. "My wife, with her great insight, said, 'Do you realize the swine flu and everything is hitting the Florida campus last week.' My gosh."

"We're trying the best we can, but it's real," Meyer said. "We go to the extremes. They get a separate dorm room for them. They get a separate hotel room for them. They put them right on whatever the flu stuff is. Our guys, our team doctors, they're on it as fast as you can get on it."

That's like whining when you have a player banged up from injury. Hey CUM our top two wide receivers are banged up, the guy who was supposed to be our starting center is banged up, our right guard is banged up. Didn't hear CLK use the injury excuse when we lost. In fact, I'm pretty sure that he praised UF's defense and Tebow. Classy way to win jackass. He just couldn't believe that he didn't get to run the score up and you can say what you want but people are questioning UF this week when last week they were saying that UF was going to murder Tennessee. We did better than everyone thought and there wasn't anyone watching that game that didn't think Tennessee had a shot until the last few minutes.

Vollie, none of those quotes mention not beating you by 100 because of the swine flu.

You won't find swine flu and not beating you by a larger margin anywhere.

Try again.

LACK OF NO HUDDLE????? Do you see who our Quarterback is????? You're suggesting that we should go no huddle with 5 minutes left with Jonathan Crompton at quarterback? This just has to be a joke.

You realize that by doing what everyone suggested we should do(putting the ball in Crompton's hands) to try to win the game is exactly how we LOST the game!!!

If anything we should have gone to some type of Wildcat. But the suggestion that we should have put more on Crompton to win the game is ludicrous.

You didn't post his complimentary posts. Why not?

quote:

and I have much more respect for the personnel that we faced. I think No. 2 (Montario Hardesty of Tennessee) is a great back. I am glad he is a senior and I want to get him out of this league, he is a heck of a player.”

quote:

“I think we faced the best running back we will face all year,” Meyer said. “He is tremendous. That isn't a reason to miss tackles, we just need to get a little better. Spikes was in and out of the game and we just have to get a little better. Our pursuit wasn't great either, for whatever reason.”

quote:

Meyer made sure to give Tennessee credit for keeping the Gators to only 23 points in the game. Florida was favored by 29 points at kickoff and the Tennessee defense has some quality personnel and always has according to Meyer. “The year before, Coach Chavis did a nice job as well,” Meyer said. “The common theme is great players. They certainly did a nice job against Florida. Tennessee has done a nice job every year. I think the common denominator is tremendous personnel.

Yep, real classless.

Can you not run out of the no-huddle?

No-huddle does not mean throw it all over the field.

I think hurry up and get to the line of the scrimmage is the issue for me anyway. I was glad he didn't but was surprised.

UT burned about 4 minutes going almost 30 yards to get to our 50 prior to the interception. This is what made me scratch my head.

Of course, if Tebow was like Lane, he'd be celebrating having only 1 INT and 1 fumble.

From an article on the Gainesville newspaper's website:

quote:

After the game, Meyer said his team's performance was hampered because several key players -- Aaron Hernandez, Jeffery Demps and Jermaine Cunningham -- had the flu, and he also said Kiffin's conservative gameplan ``made our life a little easier.''

``When I saw them start handing the ball off, I didn't feel like they were going after the win,'' Meyer said. ``They wanted to shorten the game. I think that was the plan. There are 10 minutes to go and they're not in a no-huddle. It's 23-6 and no urgency.

Urban Meyer. All class.

After seeing the Miami Dolphin's "Hurry-up" offense last night, I am inclined to cut UT some slack, although each should be capable of it.

I think running the ball and trying to keep Timmy and Co. off the field was the only chance UT had. The UT running game was IMPRESSIVE, assuming Fla's Defense is as stout as usual.

Just hard to fathom a UT fan calling anyone else's coach classless. This is the most hypocritical f'ing thread on the board.

I read something just the other day about onside kicks, I don't remember where. and they were saying that if you actually looked at percentages inside two minutes a team that is down by a TD is 7X more likely to tie the game if they go for an onside kick then they are if they kick and depend on their defense to get the ball back. I have no idea if this is true, just what I read.
