Interesting. I would have guessed UF would be bigger than LSU

Same. I'm wondering if UM is including their famous Marijuana farm in their acreage.

If AR counted all of their agriculture and hydrogeology research lands, we would be in the thousands of acres too. UA now manages Lake Wedington too.

I took some classes at Arkansas and did not know that
No I wouldn't have thought they would build there. Just saying, there is some unused land around and overall I didn't think it was cramped. And yes walking around there can be a bitch.
ETA: The orientation part makes a bit more sense now

LSU's agcenter is located in Jeanerette, La and consists of 1137 acres. The off-campus location eliminates the problem of stepping in pig sh*t and chicken droppings on the way to classes.
Agree with that fervently. But again, just interested in the size of the main contiguous campuses, where every student has cause to visit regardless of major.

How close are these to Arky's main campus? Any of them walking distance?

The Bryce purchase will be the last expansion of the main campus at UA due to the Black Warrior river.

We gotta be. Even with that though I didn't think we were very big.

Arkansas come to think of it is kind of tiny but I never thought it seemed that cramped. There's a fair bit of unused land, like all the stuff out in front of Old Main.
Alabama has added a fair bit of land I think. Alabama is absolutely rolling in money, enrollment's way up and Richard Shelby sends a pile of pork money down there apparently. I've never seen more building, its literally non-stop. Hopefully they don't ruin it cause say what you will about Tuscaloosa being not very nice, the campus at Alabama is very nice.
Arkansas would have to buy up homes and cut down trees, it would be a ton of work.
As stated above when I was in college those hills would give you one heck of a workout, ha. Plus, a smaller campus in acres is better more ladies to look at between classes.
The land in front of Old Main will never be used it has every tree in the state of Arkansas planted there. Speaking of... It's the perfect setup for tailgating if they would let it be used.
Arkansas has blown up in terms of students and construction compared to when I was in college early 2000's. Is not even the same school and is only getting much better.
Arkansas enrollment 22,000.
LSU enrollment 25,000.

It's one of the only things I remember from freshman orientation way back in the day.

Interesting, I would have sworn that UTs campus would have been one of the larger ones.
Tennessee has a small overall campus. This doesn't include farms and other sites. We also don't have any room to expand being next to the city. That's why we are tearing down buildings to build new ones.

Do you have an updated campus size for UA, or is 1,000 acres the current figure?

The Ag park is about a three minute drive from the north side of campus.
Lake Wedington is about a 15 minute drive from campus out past my hometown of Farmington.

Yeah, we certainly are. Check the map on Google if you're interested. There's a lot of the Ole Miss campus that is devoted to research areas, athletic fields, museums, and a whole bunch of other stuff that's not within the immediate vicinity of the Grove, circle, Lyceum, Stadium, and other areas which you've likely seen. That central area of campus is probably about 300 acres or so, whereas the huge chunks of land spreading out behind the IPF, Swayze, Fraternity Row, and backing all the way up to Jackson Avenue is all probably 1200 acres or so together.

"As of Fall 2010, the current total enrollment of Mississippi State is 19,644.[7] The university contains 160 buildings, and the grounds of the university comprise about 4,200 acres (17 km²), including farms, pastures, and woodlands of the Experiment Station. The university also owns an additional 80,000 acres (320 km²) across the state."

did you know that Lsu gave land to Louisiana school for the deaf in 1984 or 1985?

Thanks for that info, that's more in line with my impression. Still a very respectable figure as far as campus size, as you can see by the list. And still one of the nicest looking campuses, but that thread has already been done to death.

I personally like how I can walk everywhere at UA. They did just purchase the land that Bryce Hospital was on which will increase the acreage by a good bit. I am surpised that UF isnt on top. I remember thinking how large the campus was when I went.

11. Arkansas at 345 acres. Biggest shocker to me in the list. But the one time I was in Fayetteville, it was cold and overcast and I was in a hurry to get to Baum. Is there truly no room to expand?
As has already been stated, the agri sections of the campus, if you want to call it part of the campus, is bigger than any other section by far. Hell, we have some land outside Hot Springs.
