Under the NCAA's "pay for play" will verbal commitments be binding?

Oral contracts can be binding in most jurisdictions if an offer and acceptance can be verified
John Doe visits Blank University and is offered X to play there by Blank University coaches and administrators
John Doe agrees to said terms, then announces his/her acceptance via social media
Is professional athlete John Doe legally bound to his oral agreement?

Which university is the first to sue a player?

That's a slippery slope, but it doesn't mean it won't happen
The judge's ruling will potentially alter the entire recruitment process and likely eliminate specified "signing days"

It’s a fair question, but now that the stakes have changed, a kid could legitimately damage a program if they pass on other players because of a verbal commitment
I don’t think big programs will be hesitant to sue a kid if he screwed them badly. There will be actual damages that can be proven.

We still have scholarships. In fact, we now have 105 of them. So no.
Not sure why anyone would want to sign 105, given that the more you sign, the smaller the pie. I'm not even sure why we need 85 when so many are bouncing around for big paydays. Find the best core players and pay them to stay home and be productive.

NCAA should get rid of the verbal commitment. First commitment should be written.

Lawyers won’t frick this up.
Look at what they have done with the US and State of Louisiana.
One thing is certain….no matter what, every lawyer will win.
