i'm not one to brag about Bama's past, but to totally disregard it isn't very smart either

Army and Tulane were championship caliber programs in the 30s and 40s.

Sure there is. We're like Old Coca Cola. Been around, king of the roost for a long time. Finally, some dumbazzes in charge decided to play with things, wallah... New Coke (horrible disaster the lasted 10 yrs for us). Finally saw the error of their ways and brought back Coke classic.(lost a big share of the lead, but steadily moving back up).

I wasn't around in the 60's either. But, I have been around to see 3 National Championships awarded. (Not counting 1973 in this total, only AP awarded, as they were the standards in my lifetime, until the BCS.)

they did have some good teams. I'm not afraid to give credit where credit is due.

KPCrimson was the poster I had more in mind.
Damn man, I never directly addressed you. I'm one of the few here that could actually be objective about this subject. You guys AU/Bama have no shot at being "objective" in this particular area of discussion. You know, how the hate between the two schools causes them to go out of their respective minds when the other school goes on an "upswing" or whatever.
You are talking future success/failure at AU, i'm talking about things going on at AU now as in TTs decision making like OC's, schemes, and whether he gets let go or quits.
I never said that the future of Auburn football won't be affected by a surging Alabama program. Not at all what i'm taking about. We don't know for sure how that will play out, but some people(not specific here) have the idea that TT will be fired, quit, or makes decisions about his team based on Bamas success. I just happen to think, and it's the only thing i'm saying here, that its the fricking horrible year he is having this year that will or could cause any of those things to happen.

I think its ok if AU fans want Tubby to leave. I am not sure he has wanted to be there for awhile anyway. Alabama fans have nothing to brag about. They wanted to run Bryant out of Alabama in the early 80s.

umm, he sorta died in the early 80's.

I wasn't alive then. I remembered they were going to fire him right before he retired and died. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted him to be fired earlier. I suppose its the nature of the beast. If we lose to South Carolina, the rantards are going to want to fire Les.

Noway would the bear last that long in today's game. We would have been canned by 1970.

I am pretty sure they showed up at his funeral and fired him. Right in front of God, his family, and everything.

I highly doubt that. There were bumper stickers around during the Perkins/Curry years that said "Dig Him Up".

quote:That is exactly what I said too. It is an opinion. That being said, I NEVER said Tubbs was getting fired because Bama was successful. I said that if Bama was 4-2, with losses to Clemson and Georgia, then the talk of firing tubbs this year would not be going on. Yes there would be disgruntled fans because they have lost but with the exception of 2 of Tubbs 10 years at AU that has always been the case. Tubbs record has been one of creating expectations, losing to a couple of teams he should not, defeat a top ten team every year as an underdog (Remember the create expectations part), and keep everyone happy by beating Bama. That has been fine for the last 10 years b/c basically during that time Bama has been terrible. I ABSOLUTELY think that a lot of the upset people in Auburn right now has to do with the fact that they are 4-3. Tubbs is set up just as normal though. I fully expect for him to defeat West Virginia and get the buzz going again, just as he has done nearly every year he has been there. In past years the Georgia game would be another one of those top ten underdog wins. The difference this year, to me (again my opinion), is that Bama is not only 6-0, but have looked good doing it. This has not been like '05 (So far) when the offense tanked after Pro went down. So again, if Bama were 4-2 right now, Tubbs seat may be warm but not anywhere the way it is now.
I just happen to think
Now to the "Not being alive in the 60's" part. Ok. Were you alive in the 90's then? Bama absolutely owned the west during this time, especially while Stallings was here. The '92 Defense was probably the best ever assembled in the SEC. Had it not been for a certain Visor coach, the '94 team probably would have added #13 (or 7 or 11, whatever). I don't want to hear the argument that LSU was bad b/c of coaching and recruiting during that decade unless you are willing to admit that we can use the same excuse the last decade. Either way RTR and I hope a 9-0 Bama meets a 1-Loss LSU on November 8.

I do not know alot about the situation, but its sounds pretty bad over there. Coaches fighting and going bonkers. I think they would have trouble regardless of Alabama's success.
