ETA: Nm. I thought you were talking about OU. Mixed your post up with a different one.

Recruiting is part of the puzzle, but I see aggy is declaring themselves recruiting champions. Wasn't Arik Gilbert one of the highest rated recruits ever, look how that worked out.

There’s plenty of examples of programs who recruited at a monumental level and never got it done.
Name them. Name all of the teams besides t.u. who outrecruited everyone else in their conference and didn't get it done.

As Torque mentioned it was the perfect storm. A lot of people believe it is NIL deals, but in all honesty I do not think our players made that much money this past year. If they did the kid would be bragging about it, and the info would be out there. Public knowledge of NIL deals is a good thing - why do you think Saban mentioned Bryce Young’s NIL deal? The biggest impact is this…. We have recruited some REALLY good kids the past 3 season, and they are extremely close. All the recruits talked about this family/brotherhood being the biggest draw during interviews. The early commits in this class also did an outstanding job in recruiting.

A&M was ahead of the game with the new rules. Gotta give them credit honestly

This year was the perfect storm for A&M to haul in a monster recruiting class.
Their NIL plus Texas was awful along with coaching changes at LSU and OU.
You left out one thing, the banner year for talent in the Houston area.
A&M leads for 2 5-star players from the Houston area and signed 10 4-star players from the Houston area.

The Houston area always seems to be strong. If I were a coach and could put a recruiting fence around any metro area Houston would probably be the one.

But Houston isn't that big of a football program. That is why players go elsewhere like Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, and other good football programs.

I wasn't talking about the University of Houston. I was talking about the high school talent that comes out of Houston and its surrounding areas.

Don't forget Covid. That helped. Especially with the 7 extra spots.

Georgia was the last one. Had the #1 recruiting class of 2018. This is the 4th year for these recruits. Maybe they finish it this year.

Sugar Bowl, L 21–28 vs. Texas
2019 - SEC Eastern Division champion
Sugar Bowl champion
SEC Championship Game, L 10–37 vs. LSU
Sugar Bowl, W 26–14 vs. Baylor
2020 - Peach Bowl champion
Peach Bowl, W 24–21 vs. Cincinnati
2021 - SEC Eastern Division champion

Randy gets it. You don’t.
If you removed every 5 star in our class, we’d still have the best class we have ever recruited.
If you removed every offensive player from the list, we still have a 300+ score and the best class we have signed.
Jimbi has never signed more than 7 top 100 kids in a class. There are 7 on offense and 7 on defense in this class. (With 3 more to come.)
We have as many top 100 kids as the Big 12, PAC, and ACC combined.
It’s the highest rated class in the history of recruiting.
Texas, the number 5 class, has 3 top 100 kids.

A&M is building a culture of family and personal relationships. It's a big change since the Sumlin swagger culture. And it's one that both players and their parents are attracted to.

Get your jokes in while you can, they won't be finishing 7-5 or 8-4 much longer.
With a class like this they may even finish 9-3.
Dream big.

In the '00s teams that had the #1 Recruiting Class had about half the Top 100 Players they do now. Just a different world. You know what was the best Recruiting Class of the '00s though? 2002 Texas led by a guy named Vince Young.
The last #1 that really fizzled was Florida 2010 but that was also right before Urban left and UF was left to Muschamp.
Talent doesn't win it alone but acting like it doesn't matter just makes you look like a fool. It's the single best predictor of success just like picking the best kids to play on your team at recess. The biggest challenge A&M has is Bama and UGA have been doing this for years and this is our first time really recruiting at this level and we have to get through them.

Fun fact:
Of the highest rated players A&M has ever signed, #1, #4, #10, and #15 are all in this class.
If Harold Perkins signs with A&M he becomes #4
If Shemar Stewart signs with A&M he becomes #7
If Denver Harris signs with A&M he becomes #12
The 2022 class could quite literally have the #1, #4, #5, #8, #12, #14, #18 and #29 all time A&M signees in the same class.
#1 Walter Nolan
#2 Myles Garrett
#3 Reggie McNeal
-HAROLD PERKINS-
#4 Evan Stewart
#5 Kyle Allen
#6 Speedy Noil
-SHEMAR STEWART-
#7 Martellus Bennett
#8 Kenyon Green
#9 Jorrie Adams
#10 Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy
#11 DeMarvin Leal
-DENVER HARRIS-
#12 Daylon Mack
#13 Jaylon Jones
#14 Trey Williams
#15 Conner Weigman
#16 Christian Kirk
#17 Demond Demas
#18 Mike Goodson
#19 Christine Michael
#20 Ricky Seals-Jones
#21 Shemar Turner
#22 Jami Hightower
#23 Kyler Murray
#24 Thomas Johnson
#25 Justin Warren (composite 4 star)

t was kind of painful seeing you go 7-6 with Tannehill, Swope, Gray, etc
Tannehill was a 3 Star and the #630 Player in the country. Ryan Swope was a 3 Star and the #600 Player in the country. Gray however was a 4 Star and #70, he would just barely be in the Top half of the A&M Class this year. We simply have never recruited at this level before, we have had talent for sure but not this depth of talent.
You can find gems but it's hard to win consistently with that level of talent. The 2007 Class for A&M was one of our lowest ranked ever at 41 but it had 2 guys that were 3 Stars who turned out pretty good. Tannehill and some guy named Von Miller (who was the 288th best player in that class). Problem is they didn't have enough talent around them to compete consistently with the talent at Texas and OU at the time.
