You can laugh and say it's only Virginia.
Maybe so, but they are still a mid tier ACC squad that will be playing very inspired football because three of their players passed in a school related tradegy.
The Vols will be wearing special decals to honor these guys.
Am not expecting an easy game but we should pull away in the second half and win by two scores at least.
First game of the season can be a bit dicey against a game opponent.

That's too big of a spread for the first game of the year with this rule change imo against a P5 opponent.
I would be very glad to be wrong though. Tennessee teams start off slowly hence why Florida is such a huge threat to us every year.
We started off slowly last year as well with close wins over Pitt and Florida before our offense really started clicking on all cylinders.
Until we break this trend, I'll keep my expectations in check for the first few games.

Would not be surprised to see a lot of false starts and a few more than normal holding calls this first game because of it.

I wouldn't be too sure because with this new rule one methodical sustained drive by either team can take half a quarter up pretty easily. The rule change sucks. Am not a fan at all of it.

They had Vandy -17.5
They had the O/U for tech and Louisville at 49.5
The first game of the year is a crapshoot for betting. Too many unknowns, too many assumptions. If Mays is healthy then on paper the Vols should be able to name the score. But with a rebuilt 3rd option Oline and a mercenary VA team? I don’t make a habit of betting on the Vols and generally avoid the 1st game of the year in general. I’m a low end gambler in the sports book world with a draftkings account as a hobby.
