hew just got caught up with this thread. Jebus guys the last three pages are arguing who was more racist in the last 100 years.
That being said....
Clemson....answer is Clemson.
Tillman never attended Clemson or worked at Clemson.
Thomas Clemson did not list any restrictions on student race or gender in his will setting up the university. This was rare for that era.
Even universities funded by wealthy people up north, such as Vanderbilt, Tulane and Rice, had race and gender restrictions.

The main building on your campus is named after him still.

Yes b/c he pushed for a separate agricultural college. USC originally had the agricultural college although it was mostly using the Morill Act money to fund other programs.
He also pushed for the first female college in the state, Winthrop, which also has a clock tower building named Tillman.
Doesn't Florida have a building named after a horrible racist? The student union I think.
I think pretty much every college has at least one building named after a racist if it was founded in the 1800s.
I think the name will get changed after the older trustees pass away. I would name it Clemson Hall.

Classic KKKlempson. Trying to distance his University from the man who most scholars agree was the most outspoken racist in the history of United States electoral politics, all while using said racist as his screen name. KKKlassic.

SC has buildings named after Wade Hampton and Strom Thurmond.
Obviously a ton of racists went to SC back in the day given it was around long before Clemson was founded.
I've never denied Tillman was a racist.

Let me leave this to answer the OP-
Sports Illustrated
quote:
"I really felt when I took the job at Clemson that coaching was still the most important overall factor in winning and losing," he says early in the book. Later he states, "I really thought I was going to die after Clemson.... Why I didn't commit suicide or have a nervous breakdown I'll never really know."
quote:
But at Clemson Locke was frustrated, confused, desperate. From the beginning he'd tried everything he knew to gain ground on the other Atlantic Coast Conference schools, but nothing seemed to work. "If we got better, the whole league seemed to get better," he says. "And we started out five years behind everybody else." And so, to close the gap, Tates Locke cheated. Cheated big, paying money to players and encouraging academic chicanery.
quote:
"After you get the one kid, you want two. Then you get the second prospect and you want another...and another. It snowballs. By then you've lost control."
quote:
"How can you forget a man like me? I went to a Ku Klux Klan rally and a man said, 'I don't know who anybody is under those sheets, but there's ol' B.C. over there!' "
quote:
Because a congenial environment for blacks didn't exist at Clemson, Locke decided to create one. He calls it "the era of the Phony Black Fraternity." Taking over an old Quonset hut on campus and converting it into a lounge, Locke created a "fraternity." When he wanted to impress a black recruit, he had people go into surrounding communities and bring back as many black high school students as possible to populate the building. These were the fraternity "members." Locke then hired bands and staged dances. When the recruit came in, he would be surrounded by a facade of minority bliss on campus.

Yet you use his name as your avatar. What does that say about your sorry arse?
Posted on 6/18/18 at 3:32 pm to Priapus
looks like he was a . basketball coach and obviously basketball is not related to this topic.
and if he did cheated, he obviously didn't improve the program by doing so.
and if he did cheated, that isn't proof other coaches including Dabo cheat.

But his screenname doesnt promote it. Usually the screen name helps define you and your persona online.
Makes me a little curious what your night time hobbies include.

a building name isn't promoting racism.
When I was at CLemson in late 90s, i didn't know anything about Tillman the person. Nobody ever talked about him.
Only reason anybody talking about him now is SWJ who want to racebait for political reasons and SC fans who are frustrated about losing to Clemson.
When SC was on the winning streak against Clemson, SC fans were not talking about TIllman. lol

Did you know he pardoned some black convicts who wrote him and said they were unfairly imprisoned.
