You can respect and dislike at the same time. I respect his game, but can't stand his snowy white purer than thou persona. If I want a lesson in religion and life I damn sure aint gonna' listen to a 19 or 20 year old college kid. I love the clips of him talking to prisoners. Those guys were probably just happy to be out of their cell for an hour or two. They would sit and listen to Stephen Hawking rather that sit in the cell block or walk the highway picking up trash.

I do find myself respecting his game. After his sophomore year I was convinced that he was not going to be hurt playing his style like everyone said. Just to big, to strong, and to smart. I would love to see his arse get jacked up one good time.

When has Tebow EVER displayed a holier than thou attitude? Because he's answered questions asked of him and the reporter asking the question played it off like that? I have NEVER heard Tebow say anything like "I'm better than you because I'm a virgin" or anything of the sort. I've never heard Tebow say "Spend 10 minutes with me and your life will be improved" or anything of the sort. If you're gonna hate someone, hate the reporters.

As for wishing injury to him, you're pitiful. It's a game, how could you wish an injury on anyone?

"How can you shoot innocent women and children"

"It's easy, you just dont lead them as much"

Thats a movie quote that's probably a little before your time Jr.

Relax, I don't think I said I wanted him to get hurt. I said I wanted him to get "Jacked Up"meaning someone finally lay a good lick on him. I was trying to say that I don't think anyone can hurt him. Thus I respect his game. Make sure you get enough sleep for the early service tomorrow.

sugar8 why are you such a hater. We will see how much he sucks in Tiger Stadium this year. Does the 50 plus points mean anything to you from last season. I bet you think he had a terrible game in Tiger stadium 2 years ago. Do you not remember how loud Death Valley got after it was announced USC LOST? A few seconds later, Tebow hooked up with Ingram for a TD. Keep in mind, that we pulled ahead of that game at the very end. Oh and that same "mediocre" Auburn team also had us "beat" only until the very last play.

I Love my Tigers, but i sure ain't think the glory is not well deserved. It may be annoying but he still is a damn good football player.

Yes, what did it for me is when they said superman wears Tebow pajamas to bed. Then it really made me sick while watching a completely different sport they said, That move was Tebow like. I do really admire the guy, but it certainly does get old.

I agree, the whole dam preseason team is pointless anyway. It is keeping the SEC/coaches on the lips though and giving us a lot of national recognition.

He's childish for having his convictions? I would argue the opposite. It takes a real man to get up and say "this is what I believe in" when there are jackasses like you who make fun of him at every turn for doing so.

You totally missed my point. Is it asking too much for someone, especially someone who is college educated, to be critical and not simply swallow whole everything that's fed to them like a good and proper cultural soldier? There is nothing admirable about blind, religious fundamentalism. Just stick to the football.

Exactly. I hate to shite on anyone's religion, but... according to Sports Illustrated, Tebow (or at least his dad, and they imply that Tebow has the same beliefs) believes that the Bible is LITERALLY true! (For one thing, which translation? They are all different.) That means he really actually thinks that the world was created 6,000 years ago and that dinosaurs and humans co-existed. This is ridiculous and definitely wrong and I'm embarrassed that a soon-to-be Florida graduate could hold these beliefs.

I'm not a believer and I'm not turning this into that type of thread, but that's wrong. Young-earth creationism is just one interpretation. So, don't be too quick to judge another person's beliefs, especially when you don't really know what they believe. Believing the Bible is literally true still leaves room for interpretation. At no point does Genesis date the earth to 6,000 years, nor does it say humans and dinosaurs coexisted.

And I'm not a Christian so I'm not bringing this up because of some religious agenda, just saying it's never wise to make assumptions.

As long as Tebow cries for a second time in Tiger Stadium, I will always hope for the best for him in life.

As long as he's crying tears of joy from whooping that LSU arse this year then I don't care either.

We'll see my friend, we will see... FWIW this is the game I'm most excited for this year. Hopefully it will be a great game like last time Florida came to BR.

Sounds like this thread has taken an unforeseen turn but since you brought it up, either there is a Creator (i.e., a first-cause) or there is an infinite regression of cause-and-effect. And a little reflection will show that an infinite regression of cause-and-effect is a philosophical absurdity. And who's to say that God didn't create a 6 million year old rock when He created things?

If someone really wanted to be ashamed of beliefs why not broadcast some of the beliefs of UF's professors. I'd bet we'd get some real winners.

Infinite-regression shows the need for a starting point, not necessarily a creator. Of course that goes into a whole other argument.

I'm tired now, if this stuff is still an issue tomorrow I'll reply then.

Different translations of the Bible say different things. But believing in a literal Adam and Eve, and their literal descendants, and a literal plague of frogs falling from the sky is a bit silly. If every word of the King James Bible is accurate, then evolution and carbon dating are impossible. I have no problem with spirituality, but when your beliefs contradict proven science, it's time to re-evaluate your beliefs.

Evolution and carbon dating aren't at odds with what is said in the Bible. And there is external evidence for the plagues in Egypt, so that has a basis. And even literal Adam and Eve, a lot of Christians don't necessarily think that there was a literal Adam and Eve, but that they represented the rise of humanity.

Different translations generally say the same things, they're just worded differently. That excludes versions like the Jehovah Witness' use.

I'm just saying the creationism/evolution/carbon-dating arguments are not as simple as certain, Biblethumping people would have you believe. And that relates to both agnostics/atheists and christians.

Nor did they realize people would eventually stop getting married at 13 and wait until mid twenties; otherwise, the "Keep your virginity" thingy would have never been written.

That's true. Those who think that way are smart. But Tebow's dad (and presumably Tebow himself) don't think that way. They think Adam and Eve were literal people and all their descendants mentioned in the Bible were literal people and therefore the world is six thousand years old. They are provably wrong. And while it's admirable that Tim Tebow wants to do more than cater to his short-term desires, it's dumb to think that his promoting his ridiculous religious beliefs somehow makes him the amazing human being the media says he is.

4nmylife,
I like the FMJ quote!

As for TT. He is clearly a gladiator. Will he cry when he finds out God is not real?
