I just emailed all the sponsors letting them know I'm boycotting them because of Cole Cubelic's radio show. I've never listened to it, but I'm sure he's said some hurty things about Alabama on it.

Any bets on if we hear the tapes this week
I would imagine that if the powers to be at the radio station are giving him a "shite or get off the pot" speech, we will hear them sooner rather than later. That is, if anything is actually in there...

Boycotts only give short term results, people forget quickly. The bammers are boycotting the Birmingham News the same way Auburn is trying to boycott this station. The only long term boycott that I have seen work, was the boycott of Bromberg Jewelry for their brillant ad campaign two years ago.

What did the Bromberg Jewelry ad say?

I agree about Bromberg's (they should teach stupid marketing in school), but this one is getting some legs also. When someone clearly goes over the line, folks pay attention.
We have discussed our findings with the station management and have requested that ActionSportsArt ads be pulled from the show and the station at this time.
Folks, you can laugh if you want to, but here is another example of someone pulling their ads. (SIAP).

I think someone dispelled that rumor on here. Bromberg closed a store for entirely unrelated purposes.
As an aside, I thought the ad was funny as shite.

But even though her grandma was the state tobacky-spittin' champ and she can burp out every bar of War Eagle, your world revolves around her. So turn her thoughts from blue and orange to wedding white with the perfect engagement ring from Bromberg's. Soon she'll be singing your praises as the best fiance ever. Provided there's no spelling involved."

The ad, which ran in The Birmingham News Nov. 21, read: "You love her, but she's an Auburn fan.

This was an ACTUAL ad, how stupid... There was a similar Bama ad, but not near as stupid.

By pointing out the demographics and location of the aforementioned closed store?

The ad was funny and didn't hurt their business. By the way, see if your lady friend would turn down a piece of jewelry from there...

Now, Bromberg’s faced growth problems with their flagship store in Mountain Brook, AL and the branch store in Montgomery. The Mountain Brook store needed to be remodeled to effectively service the exclusive clientele that frequented the location, while the Montgomery store was in decline and needed to be divested.
Same reason it closed in Birmingham.

Bromberg's closed the store in early 2009 after seeing a dramatic exodus in its customer base to the suburbs, ending more than a century of operating downtown. Bromberg's retained its corporate headquarters in the building.

Not so fast my friend.. The also closed the Galleria store recently (December 2010) ...LINK Now of course they will spin it in the paper, but the bottom line is they closed both the Montgomery and Hoover stores... Do you expect them to say, well the stupid ad we ran, hurt our bottom line???

My wife certainly would. Most of the stuff they carry is too gaudy.

Oh. Hey, look.. from the same article.
quote:
"The Summit has such a strong presence and is drawing from so much of the metro area that we did not need to spread ourselves too thin," he said.
So far this year, business for the company has improved over last year, Bromberg said.

Want to know the reason, the Montgomery store was in decline and needed to be divested... The AD killed them in Montgomery.. It was a big story...
Bottom line: The Ad hurt their business. It alone did not close the stores, but ask the Bromberg's if they would run it again or if it hurt their business?
