That's false. Alabama was pre-season ranked anywhere from 1-3 depending on what poll you looked at.
We fell flat on our face that year and finished 3-8. But at no point was MSU projected to be in the SEC Championship game pre-season.

Some of Sherrills teams shoved the ball down everyone's throat. They were dominant. It simply only lasted a couple years.

MSU 33-15 (20-12 SEC)
and no one else had a winning SEC record in those four years
Alabama 24-23 (16-16)
Ole Miss 30-18 (15-17)
