They need to redefine the committees supposed criteria

They have always said they wanted the "best teams" and in the 4 team era I'd say that was mostly true. I say mostly because there clearly were some exceptions some years but they were reasonable ones they kinda were forced to make given that 4 spots gave them very little wiggle room.

However in the 12 team era it's clear that geographic and conference diversity are just as important as the quality of the team and they need to just say that.

It's totally fine and probably healthier for college football that way.

6 SEC teams in a 12 team playoff would not be good for the sport even if they were on paper the best.

So yeah, drop the "best" talk and lay out the other criteria.

I honestly think the BCS computer rankings would be fine. IT doesn't change its criteria on whim. Just let it seed the first round.

The only problem I had with the BCS rankings is the weight it gave to the media poll.

One of the things college football fans need to learn is that the professional pundits sometimes know less than the average fan. See this year's "Heisman race." 100% media driven.
