I think you are overstating TCU's bitterness towards A&M. They got into a better conference and they've been more successful than A&M in football (and baseball). They know they aren't going to be a big brand because of their size.
While I do think there were hard feelings with A&M changing conferences, I think that eases a bit every year.
I think the dislike of A&M is much more akin to what another poster said about them being weird. To me the best comparison is with BYU. Another school that has a cult like vibe. In fairness to BYU, there seems to be some logic to their cultiness.

I'm not sure I'd call Chicago a Big Ten town, it's a Notre Dame town if anything.
:kige:
You could make a similar argument for Detroit to some extent but Chicago is Notre Dame first with is probably why the B1G had such a hard on to add them for the last 50 years. Folks forget the original B1G school in Chicago was Chicago before they deemphasized sports and dropped their B1G membership. From the late 1800's to WWII the Maroons were a major college football power as they has A A Stagg at the helm and he was the innovator for much of what became adopted as modern football.
Chicago shut down football and I have always had a suspicion part of that may have been the Manhattan Project having some of the early work done at the University of Chicago and not wanting the crowds or attention of a big time football team back then. As for Northwestern they never really were a sports school from day 1 so would have played second fiddle to the Maroons and the Irish back in the raccoon coat days.

TCU went from Conference USA to Big12. It's a slight move up.

Yea you can make that argument for any town in the Big Ten's footprint. They're usually NFL first and then whatever large college might be in the area...but I only really know like Indiana and west...I don't know Ohio, mainland Michigan, or PA. The one exception to that might be Des Moines which is booming with people from MN, IL, and WI lately. There seems to be a fair amount of mixing there.
Chicago is Northwestern on steroids, it's Ivy League tier. If they reemphasized athletics it would do nothing to budge the fandom-nomics of the larger city, but athletics aside they're still essentially a Big Ten school and are in all their other associations.

Such a small-minded Aggie.

It isn't though. It's wholly a UW town. You don't find Penn State fans in Madison. You go there and you'll get the opinions of Wisconsin fans, not the larger Big Ten opinion. Imagine Columbia but without the few Taters and Georgia fans, that's Madison.
And thats what I mean. Of course you go to another college town that isn't the SEC they will say they hate the SEC/
And then you go to our college towns we hate the Big 10.
(I think that's the main "Conference rivalry" when it comes to football)

Ah ok I got you, I was just mixed up by what you meant then.
Ah man it's close, I feel like the ACC is up there.

I wouldn't say that. Up here a pretty favorable/neutral feeling.
Certainly not hate.
Kinda sucks because they don't even know we are rivals.
"Oh Clemson in the title game, from the state of South Carolina, you pulling for them because of state pride?"

Most people don't care or love them in comparison to Bama as they do with every team.

I'll admit, if they keep winning you'll start seeing more and more fans with no relation to the school/SC roots.
That Tiger Paw is pretty easy to like. (unless you are a USC alum)
