I keep seeing people say stuff like, this person will be good just wait until year 3...

There is no more year 3. Look around the college landscape there are not many teams or players that have the same personnel from the first year to the third. It's turned into college basketball almost like a one and done, you may do one year at one school, 2 years at another, your wide receivers are going to transfer to different places, coaches get hired, coaches get fired, they make it someone else in the portal and then you're on the bench and then you can go somewhere else there's a lot more moving parts now than there ever was.

It's not about recruiting the players in high school as much, and then holding on to them and then building a team around them that would be foolish in today's game because you have no guarantee that they're not going to go somewhere else unlike before where it was much more difficult to leave.

Every year a team could go 0 and 12 or they could go 12 and 0 and it all depends on the portal.

Every single year has to be the year that your team does well otherwise there will be massive turnover, people can twist and squirm and say whatever they want but the fact is if you don't get it done in a year, things are going to change whether that's coordinators, coaches, players, funding. You have to produce and you have to produce now there is no more wait until year three.
