Can you not see that the reason for the difference is because last year the #1 Undefeated team was in the division with said Alabama team? That seems like a big variable in this equation

I do see that, but the collective resumes should be looked at. Either divisions matter or they don't. It should not cut both ways. That is the debate.
Either (1) winning divisions and conferences matter and everyone is compartmentalized or (2) EVERYONE is in one big pot and you take the best teams (which should be determined based on who you played, beat, and lost to).

Sorry i didnt see your post before i agreed this year was different from last year. I think you really nailed this years situation.

This is absurd. You have to win your division and at least get to the conference title game in order to get to the BCS game. If you cannot win your division, how can you claim to be among the best 2 in your conference, much less the best 2 in the BCS race???????
Only Sanctimonious Saban could make an argue for Bama last year with a straight face, then turn around and use the opposite argument this year. He is an utter jack arse.

I think that the fact that. Alabama lost to the undefeated team in the same division strengthens the premise they didnt earn the spot in the NCG. This means that at best Bama finished no better than third in their conference. Eyeball tests and whiney coaches are tough to overcome when espn pulls for that coach. Lol. Bama is the only team in history that will win a NC.

I don't know how to explain it..
The consensus that put Alabama in the game last year was that, although UGA made the championship game, the only reason that Bama even had a loss was because they played the best team in the country, and Georgia getting owned in the conference championship helped solidify that.
Conference championships should always mean something. I think division championships are touchy sometimes. It can go either way. But certainly this year is a totally different situation

An SEC East team could literally go 8-4 in the regular season and would make the conference championship game while an 11-1 and 10-2 West team sat out to a 12-0 West team. It doesn't always work that way

That having a 3 point overtime loss to an undefeated #1 team in the country and the other 1-loss teams losing to worse opponents is the same as this year? Listen, I still feel weird about last year's title, and I understand Florida's plight this year. But the way the system works, Alabama got in because of sheer chaos. Florida could have gotten in the same way, but things didn't get chaotic this year. ND loses to USC and they're in against the SEC champ, just like last year

Sorry, I've been catching up on The Walking Dead on the interwebz
But what the real kicker in this whole mess is the fact that pre season rankings are beginning to outweigh SOS. And that's just not right.
College football is (as of now, without the playoff) supposed to be all about each week being do or die.
But it has changed. Now if you're in the top 5 pre season, and drop a game (even late in the year ex: aTm) it doesn't matter. You won't drop far and all you need is another team to drop a game.
So if you're a big time program, that is consistently recruiting big name guys, you'll always have a pre season ranking near the top. What incentive is there to play a tough schedule then? You're essentially guaranteed a NC bid if you get a lucky break with the conference scheduling (Bama 2013).
It's not right. LSU next year will likely have one of the best teams I've seen them field in my lifetime, yet they'll probably drop a game or 2 because we play Bama, aTm, UF and USCe.
Yet Bama was lucky enough to draw Mizzou and UK as their cross divisional games. IMO that weak arse schedule should not get you to the NCG. You should be forced to play a game or 2 OOC that has some value to it.
The only way to do that is to drop pre season rankings and let the BCS rankings decide in October based on W's, L's and SOS.

I'll agree here. I just wanted to uncover that this year and last have a lot of differences that were'nt being accounted for. I'm not an irrational gump, but I gotta stick up for my team when I feel they're being misrepresented

The point is correct that Florida 2012 is on the outside looking in because they didn't win their division. They lost to UGA and now get to go to the Sugar Bowl at 11-1.
This is EXACTLY what should have happened to Alabama 2011, regardless of the result of the NCG. However, since it didn't and Bama won, they are the undisputed champion of 2011. If Okie St had been undefeated, Bama would have definitely been on the outside. Still, it seems like winning a BCS conference (Big XII) should mean something.
A Bama fan making a comment about needing to win a division/conference to be legit is like an LSU fan embracing an AP National Championship without winning the BCS NCG - which was under discussion if the NCG had been a close game.
If you try to have it both ways, you look like a major hypocrite.
