LSU's first post-Civil War president was Maj. David F. Boyd, CSA. Those of you that actually attended LSU might know that the building named for him is to the left of the Campanile. It now houses the graduate school offices. He also was, for one year, president of Auburn University.

Boyd once said, "He who feels no pride in his ancestors is unworthy to be remembered by his descendents." Very true.

Also, Gen. Kirby Smith, CSA, who had a large residence hall named after him, was a prominent CW participant.

End of History lesson.

Yeah both arguments are valid. It happened because of decades long split of sectionalism.. over the issue of slavery. And yes the Southern states believed that it was their right to have them and that the North couldn't tell them otherwise.

So it was about state's rights.. over slavery.

Whatever!

All we wanted to do was to maintain our plantations and economy. The North wouldn't let us, so we seceded. Then they attacked US! Those Americans are always invading other people's countries. Why couldn't they just let us live in peace and harmony?

Those aggressive Northerners brought the fight to us. We were just minding our own business sipping sweet tea and growing out our Bama bangs.

I suggest some people need to read the book "The real Lincoln". It is a great read about his beliefs, agenda and a unnecessary war. People will have a different view of him afterwards, as they should.

Its taught too much that Lincoln was the great emancipator of slaves when really his biggest goal and eventual accomplishment was keeping the Union as 1. Even if it meant the use of significant force. I know as Southerners we take great pride in who we are but I think today we can all appreciate still being a part of the good ole US of A.
