Venables created his fame as a DC that became proficient in creating a network of GA's who attended opponents games (and practices when possible) to steal offensive signals. Now that he's seen Michigan get slapped on the wrist for doing the same (and helmet mics are now a thing) he's cooled off a bit on the clandestine shite and even if he didn't it's far more difficult these days. However I'm sure he's had a tech nerd GA explore the possibility of intercepting coach to QB communications.
He can still coach a decent defense, but it's waaaaay harder to dominate when you don't know exactly what play the opposing offense is running.

Brent gets another year, due to how Riley left the program. He’s got the defense at an elite level. If he can get the offense back to OU standards it’s the next dynasty. If not he’s gone in 2026 and OU will hire heupel.
