well, i see no reason for the fbi getting involved unless there was something really shady going on at auburn...like money laundering.

Auburn may not be the focus of the FBI at all. It could have to do with other matters in which Rogers is involved (NFL matters, etc.). No one really knows at this point, and everything is speculation as to why the FBI is involved. The FBI is unlikely to keep us posted.

Right. The FBI could care less if Cam Newton plays or not.
But as the other poster said-the FBI isn't going to keep us updated. lol

According to John Bond, the agent who contacted him said, "We are interested in whether young men are being shopped to colleges."

nobody is saying the fbi cared about anything. the speculation is that the fbi was already investigating some other case, but then stumbled onto this tangent somehow and is interested in interviewing the parties related to the newton stuff. are they connected somehow?
Posted on 11/15/10 at 9:44 am to The Egg
Exactly, egg. And if they are connected, then we may see these apocalyptic sanctions handed down on auburn.

One of the BOL guys posted on Saturday something to the effect of Cam playing his last game, and receiving a text from his media guy on this. Said it was about to come to a halt in the next 48-72 hours.
This is a serious piece of information do you have a link??

they are connected if those guys are right on BOL. the scout mods say and hint on their free board that the FBI has been hearing Newton's name come up on wire taps by McGregor and company while investigating Colonial. McGregor looks like a prime suspect to be the $200G man is what some of the bama *scout.com mods are saying/predicting/guessing.

That is exactly what it sounds like.
Crazy shite.
Maybe AR being the SEC newb and outsider is a great thing.

It is a fact that McGregor has been indicted and the Department of Justice has made it known they have used wire taps for at least some of their possible evidence. Whether this ties in with Lowder, Auburn, or any of the football allegations remains to be seen. Anyone claiming anything at this point is most likely speculating, but it cannot be a good thing to be involved with a Federal investigation.

I believe it was Bond's lawyer who said that (in the TMZ report).
In any event, most of what we are seeing regarding the FBI's investigation has been speculation. Some of it is admittedly based on surmises connecting the dots involving Alabama's gambling bribe scandal, etc. Those may be in fact correct, but often times such speculation is wrong. On the other hand, there doesn't seem to be a strong connection between Rogers, Bond, and Bell to Auburn. So it makes the dots a little harder to connect directly to Auburn.
We will eventually know when whatever indictments are going to be handed down are announced, but at this point, it seems to be pure speculation as to what the real targets of the FBI are. While it is interesting to speculate, I would simply advise folks to be cautious in forming conclusions about where this will lead.

I'm sure this is just semantics, but the mods and admin on BOL have made it very clear that they will not speculate on any of this. They are staying "Switzerland" on the whole issue and might report on something if things are proven. It's the insiders from the membership side that are making these posts and statements.
I'm sure you didn't mean anything by mentioning the mods STLSU, just wanted to clear that up before someone runs with with some sort of a smear campaign brought on by those in charge of a Bama site.
