That loss was rendered irrelevant by UF winning the 3rd consecutive MNC for the SEC.

so if say Florida had lost to OU and LSU had lost to Ohio State, you contention is Texas would be playing Cincinnati?

No one outside of the SEC looks at conferences the way SEC fans do.

You also still haven't explained why Texas has gotten into 2 BCS CG the year after OU lost in the BCS CG if your conference winning is oh so important.

Does it really matter? Is the outcome of the game correlated to fans pulling for teams? I was pulling for UK last night. FWIW I enjoy watching the SEC teams win bowl games. Call it a sense of pride I guess. Also, I get that some LSU fans hate Bama. Being on this site has shown the good and excessively bad sides of both. I think it's unfortunate because pre-internet, biased radio etc fans of teams seemed much more respectful and sportsmanlike. When I was in school students from LSU would come party with us all weekend and I'm still friends with people I met those weekends today.

This is what those Nazi in Birmingham want you to do. Group think makes everyone a winner-

frick that. I don't like "everyone wins" in youth sports and I certainly don't like it in the SEC. Anyone who thinks the Gumps winning keeps the SEC relevant is drinking too much kool-aid. Plus I hate that stupid SEC chant.

+1

How Alabama winning a National Championship could possibly construed as a positive for LSU is beyond me.

You have a-hole fans just like every other team in the conference. Bama isnt the only team to host a bevy of ignorant morons in its fan base...I have met quite a few wearing purple and gold who i assume never watched a game until LSU won a national title. That of course isnt enough to keep me from rooting for LSU during OOC games. I guess thats too much to ask for the spoiled LSU fans that have cropped up since 03.

LSU fans are fricking horrible. I'm regularly embarrassed by them. Most of the shitty ones didn't even graduate from LSU though, so I take it with a grain of salt.

Just out of curiosity - are any LSU fans changing their school to Bama here? I think I might on gameday.

I really don't understand why fans in the SEC feel the need to force feed their conference on everybody. If you keep trying to build up this perception that teams in the SEC are invincible then it'll just blow up in your face when there's a down year or two.

I don't really get the southern pride thing. I've had the privilege of living in south Louisiana for over 10 years on top of many years in other great places around the country. The south is no better and no worse than anywhere I have been. There's great food, great people, great music, great sports no matter where you go.

There's the crux. It doesn't matter who you root for as long as you do it passionately. If a SEC team is playing, that's enough reason for me to root for them.

One reason to root against Bama would be media burnout from having too many SEC teams win the NC. If Bama wins, there might be a growing "spread the wealth" sentiment against the SEC.

I think its hilarious that the majority of Aubies I talk to would rather Alabama win the NC game than texas, while LSU fans cant quit whining about nearly having a 10 win season and are changing favorite team icons to uterus of texas as fast as they can. What a bunch of whining, sniveling, thunderpusses. Conference pride doesnt mean anything to the majority of you douchers, even if it could determine if LSU gets to play in the NC game some day.

LSwho has 2 national titles in recent history and tiga fans act like that gives them the right to turn up thier nose at other teams in the conference...give me a break. You have a-hole fans just like every other team in the conference. I was rooting for Bama until the other day when a guy decided he was not stopping at a stop sign. He had Roll Tide on the back of his window and right then and there I decided to root for Texas....

It's also the reason Auburn didn't even get to play for a national championship.

Dude LSU WON the National Title the year before Auburn went unbeaten in 2004. Why won't you address that fact? Auburn getting left out had nothing to do with lack of respect for the SEC. If that was the case how in the hell did LSU make the title game in 2003 when 3 teams were tied with 1 loss? What matters is how THE TEAMS IN QUESTION are viewed. USC and OU finished in the top 3 in 2003 (and the top 10 in 2002) Auburn was 7-5 and unranked in 2003. Throw in a 23-0 beat down at home by USC and all of that factors into why AUBRUN was not viewed as strong as USC and OU. Human votes aside the computers also had Auburn # 3 because of Auburn's schedule and how Auburn played in 2004.

You are an extreme homer and take any view that is not with your personally. You and SFP can believe that LSU making the title game in 2007 was because of Florida's win in 2006. You can also believe in the tooth fairy, don't make either true.
LSU made the 2007 title because we beat VT 48-7 and beat 3 other top 15 teams by the end of the season. We moved up because we were #1 before we lost to Arky, once everyone esle had 2 loses, they moved us back up. Same thing would have happened if Ohio State had beaten Florida 41-14.

Hell with the gumps.

I know, right? Why the frick do we have to root for a team we hate and a fanbase who distinguish themselves as arrogant rednecks? I'm not "rooting" for either team, but I'd rather bama lose because LSU is the only team I root for and all others can go f*ck themselves.
