shite when my dad was still living with us when I was like 3, we had a separate fridge outside and he would send me out to get a beer only to have me come back having drank some.

people that don't recall their father with a six pack of road beer for a trip or Sunday drive don't relate well with me. Quick story because you reminded me of it: when my oldest (now 20) was about 5-6, I'd have her grab me a beer when I'd get home. We'd snack on crackers, cheese, bologna or summer sausage and pickles as my after work snack while watching whatever show she wanted to sit and watch with me. I'd let her have a sip or two every once and a while. I had to cut her off though when she once brought me two beers.
I said, "no baby, I only want the one" she said, "no Dad, this one is for me." I've fetched my own beer ever since.
