Are these places really that unlike Norman? Genuine question because I’ve never been to Norman, but given that it’s right smack in the middle of all of those locales you mentioned, I have a hard time believing it’s much different.
Norman's a typical college town, but part of a larger metro area. Nice campus, lots of dining & hotel options for any budget. As a city, Waco (Joanna Gaines-ville) is actually not bad, it's improved over the past 20 years. Rapey but mostly nice campus on the river. TCU is in Ft. Worth and tons of food & stuff to do nearby.
Lubbock is a dirty shithole in the middle of nowhere. Same with Manhattan. And Stillwater. Boring drives, lame food options. Lawrence is a snooty basketball town but decent food.
The thing is, the poor fans of these universities have been beaten down for so long that win or lose, they just become total shitdicks to travelling OU fans (and I imagine Texas fans as well.) Maybe it's the same in the SEC, I don't yet know, but there seems to be a mutual respect among the SEC members. Stillwater's tailgate scene is actually pretty good but the rest (that I've seen) suck balls.
Boulder, CO was an awesome road trip.. 'was.' Gorgeous campus, but their fans like to throw batteries at opposing teams for some reason

Texas fans in Austin are in for a surprise. They aren’t used to having visiting fans take over their stadium and city for a weekend.
They’re used to having small time programs come to town. Now they’re going to have big brands with huge fan bases coming in. They’ll have to learn to be more accommodating as they have a reputation for being assholes to visiting fans. Allocating visiting sections to nose bleeds. Sticking the band in the nose bleeds.
Don’t think we forgot how you treated LSU when we came to Austin in 2019 mother frickers. Paybacks a bitch.

Fair enough if you’re talking about the people or amenities. Of your list, I’ve only been to Lawrence since I used to be a student at KU. I never noticed bad fan behavior but then again I didn’t go as an opposing fan, and I can’t imagine there’s any room for them to shite talk Oklahoma from a football perspective. I agree you should have mostly good experiences with SEC fans, I used to live down there and went to probably half of the venues and it always seemed to be pretty good. Honestly, Ohio state is the only place I’ve gone where I felt like the crowd as a whole had an air of douchebaggery about them
