I don’t think you know a lot about much and it shows. So he gassed up some locals at Calhouns and you ran with it. I take it you believe everything coaches say at booster club meetings too don’t you. He can get a condo in OKC and have the same drive he has to Nashville. That you think he’d turn down a top 5 job if it was available and offered, especially at a place where he has history, is adorable . Still waiting on you to give me the run down on “he’s Italian”

A private conversation with Tony B, Sean and myself isn’t gassing up some locals. Holy shite.

Fans believing coaches or players wouldn't entertain certain opportunities because of "muh rivalry" is peak homerism and delusion.

He’s so loyal to Tennessee he left them but he totally wouldn’t take a top 5 job that may upset fans of a team he coached at previously because he said he wouldn’t one time at dinner while he was still the head coach at the other school. It’s almost like coaches are full of shite and tell their audience what they want to hear

Because of a rivalry? Bumfrick Arkansas are his words not mine.

You said he wouldn’t go to Arkansas because of his loyalty to Tennessee. You’re all over the place. Fayetteville proper has over 100k people and has a metro population of 500k. That’s a weird definition of bumfrick in your made up story

It isn't like Knoxville is some vastly better metropolis than NWA, maybe he did say that, but if he did, it was only to make you baws feel better.

He has definitely not tried to burn any bridges with Arkansas folks since leaving Tennessee:
quote:

“Dave Van Horn’s the best ball coach,” said Vitello. “I think there’s some guys out there, and especially nowadays….everyone wants to be well rounded. So there’s guys that are a little more in the CEO category, there’s a couple guys that are really good recruiters that, if they were up in New York selling stocks, they’d be millionaires, if not billionaires.
“But if you’re just talking ball coach, there’s a couple of others that are impressive, [but] it’s always been Coach Van Horn. And he was really good to work for. We had our moments, but he’ll go down as a legend, and as a first ballot Hall of Famer at the college ranks.”

quote:

“The fun thing about the SEC — and now obviously my loyalty is to Tennessee, and I loved my time at Arkansas — but now I can sit back and admire this conference even more,” said Vitello. “You guys have come to a couple of football games. The fans are what make the league, and they will terrorize you if you’re the opponent. But it’s beautiful. It’s a really special thing to be a part of.”

So is it because he’s loyal to Tennessee?

Bumfrick Arkansas?

Because he’s Italian?

His condo in Nashville?

You can’t even keep your own story straight man

There’s nothing to keep straight, you just can’t read.

He thinks Arkansas is a bumfrick state.

He’s loyal to Tennessee (although doesn’t like Dr. Danny White) for giving him his opportunity.

Sounds like he hated Fayetteville
quote:

“I miss some of those guys. I miss some of those guys. So, they deserve to win. Certainly would like to beat them. I think maybe we [will] play them next year. Some of those guys said things they didn’t have to say, and I think there’s a mutual respect there. There’s a coach in our league that anytime he sees you on the road, always says, ‘I know we’re supposed to hate each other, but I have a lot of respect for you guys.’ Depending on the day, you like it. Sometimes you don’t like it. But I think it’s well thought out. This league is insane, especially in our sport, what it’ll do to you, and I think we all have a certain amount of respect for each other. But as you mentioned, I’ve got time here, and while I was here, I was just as big of a knucklehead as I am now, but I tried to work my arse off. It’s a good place to work.”

quote:

On his embrace with Arkansas assistant coach Bobby Wernes in postgame…

“Personal. I’ll hug the guy all day long, but he did it. He was trying to send a message. So, again, if I’m wearing a different uniform, people aren’t supposed to be nice to me. So, it makes the SEC fun. I can at, this point – I mean – growing up watching all my dad’s teams and I’ve heard about everything. So, you pay your ticket, you should be able to say whatever you want to say. Scoreboard is going to hurt more than any words you can ever, ever, ever mention. But he was trying to send a message, if that makes sense. And that’s because he’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever been around. He’s quirky as all hell, but he could really defend and he made himself into a great hitter as well. But he’ll forever be a phenomenal teammate. That’s all he was trying to do there. And then we shared some personal words. Very appreciated.”

On short meeting with Dave Van Horn before press conference…

“It was just friendly. I mean, just friendly. I guess if there was something really juicy in there, it probably be too personal. And then if there was something of substance in there, I’d share it with you too. I think he’s in a good spot. He’s got three grandkids to keep him busy, but also keep some perspective and he knows he’s got a good team. If there’s a guy to lead them, it’s him going into the next thing that they’re doing. So just a light hearted conversation and a mutual, well appreciation and respect, for mine.”

Oh I can read. He allegedly made a tongue in cheek comment a couple years ago at a dinner around Tennessee people and you think that means he’d never take the Arkansas job. It’s adorable. Ignorant but adorable

Coaches aren’t loyal to anyone but themselves. The decisions they make are much more digestible once you accept this

TBH, you sound a lot like Ole Miss fans did a few months ago. Be better than that, or don’t

The sad part is Tony has already left the Vols.

At least in the Ole Miss case, Kiffin hadn't left yet.

Absolutely adorable you think this is anything other than coach speak and praising his mentor. He doesn’t give 2 fricks about Arkansas. He’d say the same thing if he and DVH coached at Georgia prior to him taking the UT job.
