You and I have a fundamental difference in how we classify who young people are.

Not disagreeing about the shutdowns, but for some clown to dismiss that this disease is serious rubs me the wrong way. I have a very healthy 30 year old friend right now who has been debilitated for over 6 weeks following a mild infection who has all the symptoms of cardiomyopathy. She could barely walk a flight of stairs a month ago. She has never smoked a day in her life and is the picture of health until she got it.

And I don't disagree about it being very serious. My little ambulance service worked more cardiac arrests two weeks either side of Christmas than we normally work in 6 months and all were covid patients. Had another one earlier this week.

I'm just incredibly frustrated that we were told 'follow the science' and now that there's a full year of evidence that lockdowns aren't any more effective than much more limited measures suddenly following the science isn't all that important anymore.

Anyhow, keep your head up doc and let's hope the vaccines get us back to normal soon.

I have no doubt that the vaccines are making a difference. Much more so than wearing a mask and keeping people indoors, but I have been preaching that since last June. Thanks for all you do! Hang in there as well.

I'm no expert on the numbers when it comes to staying home but I have witnessed numerous older people trying to stay home but still not isolating themselves from others. A few are still getting the virus by the leaks in the dam. What's the point? Parents and grandparents are trying to shut it down, to a degree, and yet they still have a child, grandchildren, some family members coming and going in the house. Nepotism, sentiment, necessity, it still has to be working against the numbers pretty hard. In this country when we talk about shutdown or isolation it isn't necessarily the same discussion a lot of other cultures and countries are having. Ditto mask.
