They can make these hypothetical tiers all they want but eventually they’ll have to stop going off of tradition and look at the product on the field

People have no historical perspective with college football anymore. Tennessee was an upper echelon SEC program for the better part of an entire century despite having no significant in state talent to work with unlike the LSU’s, Ohio States, Texas’s and UGA’s of the world. Every football program goes through cycles of down periods for 10/20 years. It’s inevitable.

Alabama was meh for 15 years or so until Saban. UGA sucked arse for 10/15 years until Richt. Auburn has been hilariously awful for random stretches over the last 50 years. Florida didn’t even have a serious football program until Spurrier created that program. LSU pretty much sucked for 30 years until Saban. Texas-with all the grandiose mythology surrounding their football program-has like just 2 nattys and has sucked since Vince Young. Oklahoma was a disaster in the late 80s/entire 90s. Hell, A&M hasn’t won a natty since Pearl Harbor.

The idea Tennessee is forever stuck where they are is so lazy. Tennessee will get it going again, perhaps sooner than many on this board care to anticipate. Tennessee, their alums, and massive fanbase care just too much for Tennessee to always be eternally mediocre. Plus now Tennessee has the added benefit of being an economically thriving and growing state that will produce more and more SEC talent as the years go on.
