Funny how all the negative stories that are now coming out about Nico by the local “beat” reporters were stories they knew about over the course of the 24 months but somehow now it’s ok to report. You may do a great job but as an industry I put little stock in “beat reporters”
Nico was your best option before he decided to leave. Now you are saying the ones Tennessee has on the roster would do better than Nico if he was still the Tennessee starter.

Got it, I should trust a stranger on a message board over the TCU beat writer for a major news outlet.
You’re not that naive.
He’s basing it off the tweet that came out a couple of days ago from on3 LINK, where his agent said he wasn’t leaving. This is all based on some dumb message board rumors and attempts to get raises. He wasn’t on Tennessee’s board.
The Georgia Tech, Illinois, SMU, K-State, Baylor, and Iowa State QBs would be guys that actually fit the offense Heupel runs. Hoover doesn’t. I’m not sure they could pull any of those guys though. Maybe the Illinois kid since he’s from the south east.

Drinkwitz is happy with what he has and one of them will be the starter and do well enough to beat Arkansas this coming season.
That’s been his primary goal and what missou has hung their hat on for sure . Pretty pathetic….
Winning 9 to 10 regular season games is not pathetic. This will be a good team and should be better than the one from a year ago.

They would also likely try to target a guy who has been in Heupel, Lebby or Golesh offense. It’s going to be tough for a new QB to learn the system in one summer/fall camp.

I’ve held stuff in both news and sports that I have known about until the right time for the story. Which might not be the right time for the fans’ rooting interests. And if you have something really hot, you’ve got to make sure that you absolutely have everything in line before you fire that bullet. I can’t comment on what went on in the meeting rooms in Knoxville although I do know some of the individuals who would have been involved. But people aren’t making s**t up.

I will say this: If a reporter of mine wrote that story with that tweet as his only source, his arse would be fired before the ink dried on the papers coming off the press and the first byte of data was posted online. First because you don’t go with one source for a story like that, I would need at least three to let it pass, and second because I don’t trust a news outlet whose origins are in getting clicks about recruiting.
You are making the assumption since ON3 had it, he’s going by that tweet and did no other reporting on the ground in Fort Worth to confirm it.
Neither of us will ever know for sure, of course, and neither of us will change each other’s mind because you are suspicious of the media and having worked in the trade for 48 years including two decades in sports, I’m going to lean toward the media person instead of fans.

This literally all started from SMU fans trolling TCU fans. I’ve been following this from the beginning.
Agent/rep rolls with it and makes announcement for goodwill and/or potential leverage for more money. As would any smart agent of a half decent starting QB right now.
He’s literally not a fit. Think about it. Why would UT offer a pocket passer, who has about -14 rushing yards in his career, 4 million?
Even Basilio didn’t jump on this one and he’s willing to put his name on most any rumor. No one on Tennessee’s side has backed this.

Basilio did say they had contacted three QBs and one immediately said no. Was it Hoover? Again we will never know with metaphysical certainty.
As far as Hoover’s running, he’s said he’s planning to run more this year. As to whether he’d fit in Heupel’s offense, he doesn’t sound like an ideal candidate although he seems to have a very quick release, maybe that would offset mobility issues.
As for why they would reach out, my answer would be that they don’t think they can win now with the QBs they have on the roster, and Heupel thinks all this goodwill he has from the Nico situation might dissipate if they get their arse beat a few times. So they’re desperate and looking for someone who will “come on down.”
I hope that’s the case because since I am retired I am an Alabama fan and I don’t want to see Tennessee have any level of success.

Can't believe how much money people need in order to live a damn good life.

I 100% believe UT has reached out to multiple QBs. Merklinger is a RS freshman with less experience and talent (decent 4 star but not 5 star talent) than Nico had last year. George McIntyre is a true freshman who weighs 180 with a 6’6 frame (has all the tools but wasn’t productive in HS).
I don’t for a second buy we offered Hoover 4 million. If you told me we offered that to Altmyer, King or Avery Johnson I’d 100% believe that. If we wanted a pocket passer they could get Angeli from ND for fairly cheap. This is a 1 year rental situation regardless.

Nope. I’m talking about something completely different. Nico was the best option on the roster. You must be confusing me with another poster.
