It’s definitely the cell phones. Smartphones came out around 2007. Everyone has one now and can’t be bothered to look up for a ballgame.

Phone play a role, but it’s much more about the game day experience and how it’s been taken away from the students who help create the atmosphere.. and when I say students, I don’t just mean the ones in the stands.
Bands don’t get to play as much because they see now piping in music constantly throughout the game. Pipped in music is so loud you often can’t even talk to the person sitting next to you. This is a big deal because fans are less into the game, if you can’t talk about the game then you end up just sitting there waiting for the next Taylor Swift song.
Commercial breaks are brutal when in the stands. It sucks the souls out of everybody. You really have no idea how bad it is until you go to a game. Then, go to an Ivy League game where there basically isn’t any commercials and watch how different the experience is… it’s stunning.
Go to an Ivy League game and you will see what I mean, that atmosphere represents what college football should be like. The band plays, the game is played and people get into it… the only problem is there isn’t a lot of people in the stands. lol. That’s not because of the game day experience though.
Point is the game has been taken over by greed and money. I’m not going to go and pour my heat and soul into it only to be sold Petty Jean sausages every 3 minutes for 4 hours.. hell, at least give me a free sausage if you are going to force me to listen to it all day.

Stadiums are bigger now, attendance at games is at an all time high. More people In bigger stadiums results in less noise because of phones? Read that again.
Virtually any broadcast has the technology now to almost completely gate crowd noise. I agree in that games sounding quieter on TV is lame but this post was definitely made by someone who hasn’t actually been to a game in decades.
