This is where we differ then. I'd much rather beat So. Cal, Texas(minus last season), Oklahoma, etc. than beat a typically below average MSU squad.
I think these schools of thought are pretty consistent with both fanbases.
One could also deduce that out of state enrollment versus in state enrollments have a role in this. State fans are content with beating OM due to a larger portion of instate students not really knowing (or caring about) much different. OM fans, a larger portion coming from out of state and wanting to compare OM to their native UGA, UT, etc, focus more on greater achievements than beating a traditionally weaker instate rival that the afire mentioned student knows/cares little about

That should really show you where we are the last 6 seasons- tied with a team with only 5 SEC wins the last 2 years- just one more win by them and we are 6th in what has been a weak SEC the last few years

I agree with this.
With you being from out of State, I assume. You probably didn't grow up around the MSU/OM rivalry. I even have a third angle being from South Mississippi and having a lot of family members being graduates of Southern Miss, I hear a lot from them every year.
State has by far the largest percentage of its student body from Mississippi, and most native Mississippians WANT to beat Ole Miss. It just makes me scratch my head how Ole Miss fans dont care much about beating Mississippi State in anything. Even if you are from another state, you should want your shcool/team to beat their rival every time they play.

Firing Stansbury wont magically make our program one of the top teams in the SEC in basketball. Florida and Kentucky have dominated recently with Tennessee a close third. I do think we should be the top team in the SEC west, which we have been consistantly under Stans.

How many years was Ole Miss a university before Mississippi State was even chartered?

I was an OOSer but I lived in MS for a long time and my mom's side of the family split OM/MSU, so I'm not the typical OOSer.

I think it's because the OOSers don't realize the history between to two schools. That and the level of play has been down somewhat in recent history.
One thing the Danimal is doing that I appreciate is renewing the rivalry. His antics, while annoying and childish, have definitely kindled the rivalry again. Hopefully one of us won't drop off again and the rivalry can remain competitive

I'd rather beat LSU, Arky, Bama, and UF. State is just an annoyance to me. Like UCF is to UF.

FWIW I hope that all 3 Mississippi schools have a successful baseball season this year and make a regional. Id love it for multiple schools to make it to Omaha.

I think you've scratch too much and damaged your brain. You won't find an OM fan ANYWHERE that doesn't care much about beating state. Damned right we want to beat the shite out of state......but we also have far larger fish we want to fry.

Well they're not. Anyone with a brain wants whatever helps their team the most. Would I rather beat Arkansas or Ole Miss? Depends on the season, the teams, etc. Alabama or LSU is a no-brainer. Auburn, definitely would take a win against them over a win against Ole Miss this season. Luckily though, we don't have to choose.

That and the fact that all we decided is what kind of costume some jackass student will wear and dance around on the sidelines in.
Our jerseys, end zones, etc will all say Rebels. It's that simple really. People saying "black bars hur der der hur" are reaching, hence the OP and its creator.
