Pretty much the entire AD is in better shape and the programs that anyone gives a shite about are better than they have been in years. After one game of Mike Leach, I can say I’m happy with Battle Captain running things.

Is it a forgone conclusion that the rest of the west is going to get their dicks kicked in by state or is it possible someone might be able to gameplan better than Pelini did? If he runs through the SEC like a wet paper bag in year one with states roster than yes, i will be mad at him. If he does what he did at Washington state or Texas Tech i wont be that mad. I will tell you i would have been kinda pissed as a state fan if with a 10 pt lead late in the 4th we dont seem to even have the ability to run the ball at all, like there might not even be a play in the playbook, even with arguably the top back in the conference. They gave up their lead late but were able to come back and score. That most likely wont work against every team. Also, i think Currie was the one that tried to hire him and Fulmer wasn't the AD then, was more likely the haslams that interfered.

I don't think it's entirely how well he does at Miss State this year as how well he could have done at UT by the 3rd year.

eta: for the record I'm not just now jumping on the pirate's bandwagon. I said then it was a huge mistake to kill the deal with Leach.

Not a Tennessee fan, but in my opinion, Leach is a quick fix. He will have immediate impact and bring quick, exciting results. Pruitt is a steady builder that will show slow but steady results.

Quick fixes typically have a lower ceiling than a steady builder. Short term Leach is a good option. Long term, Pruitt will have better overall results.

but if Pruitt proves to be a very good coach he'll probably be the next coach at Alabama when Saban retires, and I'm not trying to irritate UT fans. In other words if he proves himself he probably won't be long term anyway. If he doesn't prove himself then they'll replace him anyway. Short term success with Leach could have set them up better for the next guy than short term failure.

If Pruitt turns out to be great, you think UT would let someone hire him away after all the crap UT has been through ? Proot would be givin a blank check

Pruitt is as Alabama as Fulmer is Tennessee. It's not always about money, though Alabama would match anything UT offered.

Let's not make this about Alabama vs Tennessee. I am curious as to how you Vol fans feel about the decision to kill the done deal with Leach.

Maybe. Maybe not. I mean, there is no way of knowing who the Alabama administration would hire. Their results have been spotty other than Bear and Saban. A couple of years ago Alabama fans were certain that Dabo was next. In a couple of years it could be somebody else.

Couldn't the same argument be made with Pruitt if he does go to Alabama? Yet, they (Tenn.) will have a much more solid base to work with./ Leach, when he leaves won't have any RBs and a roster suited only for an Air Raid offense.

Hey...I am not saying you are necessarily wrong. just giving my own uninformed opinion.

we could debate this all day but honestly I am not so interested in UGA or UA fans opinions as I am UT fans opinion as to if they feel it was a bad decision to kill the Leach deal

One game isn't going to define leach ..

I don't care he beat lsu.. ask this question again after the season. Ill know then .. you need to be able to run the ball to bring home the trophy, imo

It'll be funny when we go 6-4, and tRant gives us the "I told you so" when we were all expecting 4 wins before the season.

Yea but were speaking with the assumption that he recruits as well at Tennessee as pruitt has and he continues to win at State. At TTU and WSU he had the opportunity to win the conference twice and got his arse kicked in the game that would have won it. Second to last game to clinch the conference and lost 41-14 and 65-21. That wouldnt be all that wonderful. Hell Butch Jones did that.

I like leach, hope he gives the west hell..

I just want to see how the season plays out before I can comment on if I'd be pissed we didn't hire him

Bottom line Leach has been passed over for big time jobs similar to Coach O
Schools don't want that quirky guy leading their program
Schools don't want those weird press conferences and rants he goes on
Schools don't want the baggage of why he was fired at Texas Tech due to concussions whether it was true or not

Leach won a title with Stoops at OU.
Leach could win a title at one of the big time schools but no one will ever give him that shot.

He will be like Houston Nutt, will have some success and be a tough out everytime you play them and that's how Mullen was at MSU too.
When Nutt was at Ark, that game scared me every year at the end of the season.
