Yep, and he won the B1G outright, now 5 way ties like some coaches in the bigEast...

Don't take me so seriously, road
People did. You mean to tell me Muschamp was #1? No. It was highly rumored you tried to get Petrino which was the reason for getting the huge buyout put in his contract. True or not, we will never know but Muschamp was not #1 and if he was, I'm so sorry your AD doesn't aim higher.

You don't know Foley very well if you think he would hire Petrino. He doesn't hire known scuz.
Link??? There's no way to definitively say that. Foley doesn't kiss and tell. Everything I've read that states that Foley had Boom as his #1 target. Looking back, there wasn't anyone better available that I would have wanted to be honest. Burt wasn't tired of Wisky yet. I wanted Burt bad.

He hired Urban.

You should read all the words. I said a "known" scuz. No one had any idea about Urban at the time.

If I were a UT fan my priorities would quickly get in order seeing that being a powerhouse in football is a thing of the past. Kind of sad really.
People were saying the same thing about bama just a few years ago. Shortsighted and moronic.

No conclusions to be drawn for a couple of years.
You are kinda missing my point. I am not predicting who will do better in their actual position. I mean, I am almost driving the Bret is overrated bus.
What I am saying is that Bret was a kinda shocking hire- a coach from a top 25 program that has done well under his watch. He might not have been, but an Arky fan could argue they got their top guy.
Butch was a guy who we all know was plan C and his hire had very little shock value. In fact the shocking part of the process was how much Tenn fans (and I guess the administrators) overvalued the desirability of the position because of the damage done by Dooley.
The real question is:
If Tenn would have gone with a temp coach instead of Dooley, would they have been able to hire a guy better than Dooley or Butch when the temp left and they had a head start on that hiring season?
I think yes.
