Im personally glad yall are in this conference. Both of you bring outstanding overall sports programs, for the most part great fans and you pick up the slack of other programs that suck at everything that matters at the moment. Appreciate yall.

I was too young to remember(born in 78) but my father always said Texas, OU and Bama perfected the wishbone in the 60s and 70s.

Emory Bellard invented it when he was OC at Texas. OU as per usual stole it like they steal everything I mean their damn Boomer Sooner chant is an homage to two types of thieves after all.
With all that said basically Texas won the 1969 & 70 titles with it Bear Bryant installed it in 1971 and won the title in 1973 then the fricking thieves won back to back in 1974 & 1975 with it so your pops was 100% right.
from 1969-1975 every champion ran it from those 3 schools and only 1971 Nebraska and 1972 USC won during that 7 year run without it.

Lot of spin here. Texas won the UPI in '70... but lost their bowl game.
Alabama won the UPI in '73 but also lost their bowl game.
The AP champs (after bowls) those years were Nebraska and Notre Dame. Neither were wishbone teams.
So in reality wishbone teams that won the AP NC (after bowl games) were Texas in '69, Oklahoma in '74 and '75.
However, Alabama won two straight AP championships in '78 and '79.
Oklahoma won with the wishbone in '85 and that was the last one.
The wishbone era lasted basically twenty years... From 1968 when Texas invented it... and 1989 when Oklahoma abandoned it.
Between 1975 and 1985... there was a boatload of wishbone teams.
But by 1990... most wishbone teams had moved to an I option....
