coming from a college coach...I know that kids DO NOT pick the school...they do pick the coach for their personality (their sales pitch)...what they are planning to do with them...how they do things...they meet the team members and have to like those guys (or girls, if a female team) but if a coach up and leaves then the entire fabric of the way that squad work and is built is totally changing (the teams DNA). the kid may not have a place any longer and the value that he/she may have signed on/agreed to bring to the team has totally been changed because the school changed the contract on the school's side.
that being said, I do think these kid's for that reason -- should be granted immediate release (essentially free agency) -- because there are constantly changes to the coaching staff and we never know who the staff member was that was used to "seduce" the player to the program.

So, using your logic, every professional athlete should have the ability to void their contract and become a free agent if their coach resigns or is fired.
These aren't professional athletes. If they are, then pay them like professional athletes. If not, then treat them like kids and protect their interests like we're supposed to do for kids.

The kids still get a college education provided for them, and the opportunity to play college football. Treating them like victims isn't appropriate.
So if a rich man gets scammed, he isn't a victim? Having something doesn't mean you can't be screwed over.
Also, I thought they were more like pros than kids. You give kids the "opportunity" to play a sport and grow; you make pros sign contracts with stiff penalties if they don't provide the service they were contracted to do.
Can't have it both ways, sir.

I normally would say no... but some idiots want earlier and earlier signing periods.
Hell... the silly season (coaching swaps) will pick up even more after the super bowl. We aren't done with the coaching moves.
So yes. Let the kids leave freely.
If you don't like the kids leaving adyer signing their LOI, then move the signing period back to let the dust settle after the super bowl.
Damn good point.

Well they need to start having the school sign something too. A school isn't as affected by a player leaving as a player is affected by a good coach leaving. It can ruin a players career if a coach leaves and the school changes the type of players they want and they don't fit that type.
Another one! Is this still the Rant? Am I lost?

until they shoot a guy working at a convenience store for the $52.43 in cash.... then they are adults.... but until then, kids... poor defenseless, unable to commit, kids.
And back to reality. Asinine comment. At least I know I'm in the right place.
Or are you sending your 18 year old off to college with an unlimited credit card right after giving them power of attorney and rights to make final decisions in your business? Impressively stupid comment.
