I don't know if the tweet went viral but if you type in "penn state football myocarditis" you will see the story was picked up by Washington Post, CNN, Sports Illustrated, USA Today,etc. all with retractions.

The threshold for running stories on their websites is minimal, and the all run each other’s stories to try to get viewers.
My social media and news feeds are pretty liberal and include a lot of sports stuff, and I saw nothing about it except for this Mizzou poster whining.

I tend to agree. But if they do reprint stories that they do not vet properly and the story is proven inaccurate they run clarifications or retractions.
But his point was that it went viral, and it appears as if it did.

FWIW, I also saw that FOX news printed it, too. and clarified or retracted. (I think clarified would be the correct usage in all of the cases mentioned)

They all came out with BLM and anti-police protests. And it was the liberals who insisted on calling them peaceful demonstrations instead of riots.
