We all know there's talk of the SEC adding more schools shortly.

However, does that negate the 3 perm. idea that's been tossed around for 9 games?

16 teams & 9 games
3 perm
6 Group 1
6 Group 2
(balanced breakdown)

18 teams & 9 games
???

20 teams & 9 games
???

assuming 20 teams

4 Pods of 5 teams each

10 Game Schedule
4 - Play Your Pod
5 - Play Matching Pod
1 - Play Perm from Non-Matching Pod

Result
5 Perm Opponents - Play 6x every 6 years
1 Semi-Perm Oppo - Play 4x every 6 years
13 Rotating Oppo - Play 2x every 6 years

Pod A -- Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss State
Pod B - Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Vanderbilt, Kentucky
Pod C - ND/Miami, Clemson, FSU, So Carolina, No Carolina
Pod D - Texas, Oklahoma, A&M, Arkansas, Mizzou

Perm
Alabama > Tennessee (Texas)
Auburn > Georgia (Oklahoma)
LSU > A&M (Florida)
Ole Miss > Vanderbilt (Arkansas)
Miss State > Kentucky (Mizzou)

Tennessee > Alabama (ND/Miami)
Georgia > Auburn (Clemson)
Florida > FSU (LSU)
Vanderbilt > Ole Miss (So Carolina)
Kentucky > Miss State (No Carolina)

ND/Miami > Texas (Tennessee)
Clemson > Oklahoma (Georgia)
FSU > Florida (A&M)
So Carolina > Arkansas (Vanderbilt)
No Carolina > Mizzou (Kentucky)

Texas > ND/Miami (Alabama)
Oklahoma > Clemson (Auburn)
A&M > LSU (FSU)
Arkansas > So Carolina (Ole Miss)
Mizzou > No Carolina (Miss State)

Example Schedule - Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Miss State

4 games vs this group
Alabama
Auburn
LSU
Ole Miss
Miss State

5 games vs this group
Tennessee, ND/Miami or Texas
Georgia, Clemson or Oklahoma
Florida, FSU or Texas A&M
Vanderbilt, So Carolina or Arkansas
Kentucky, No Carolina or Mizzou

+ 1 Perm (Semi-Perm)

It's pretty great imo.. but I get the downside for Georgia & Kentucky. So Carolina & Florida wouldn't have an issue anymore.

*** all teams would play 6 of these teams each year
Alabama, Auburn, LSU
Tennessee, Georgia, Florida
ND/Miami, Clemson, FSU
Texas, Oklahoma, A&M

*** all teams would play 4 of these teams each year
Ole Miss, Miss State
Vanderbilt, Kentucky
So Carolina, No Carolina
Arkansas, Mizzou

I agree. Realignment and pods are coming.

FSU
Clemson
UNC
?

Too much money on the table.

For the love of God do NOT call them "Pods."

That is the worst term ever to use for football. It's like something you would use in a science expirement.

Notre Dame & Miami have the brands.. I suspect the B1G want both since they are AAU now.

If it isn't one of them, I don't know. The Top 3 are a slam dunk.. if we can get UNC.. if not, we stop at 18 imo.

So, no Bama/AU or UGA/FL?

Get out of here with that.

I do not think whatever the BIG does should be imitated. Period. The SEC is big enough as it is.

you need to learn to read better.. those 2 games happen every year..

Bama Schedule

Auburn
LSU
Ole Miss
Miss State
Tennessee
every year
+
Florida, Miami or Texas
+
Georgia, Clemson or OU
+
Vanderbilt, SC or Arkansas
+
Kentucky, NC or Mizzou
+
Texas or FSU or A&M

Same rationale for Georgia.

Florida
Tennessee
Auburn
Vanderbilt
Kentucky
every year

+
Texas, Alabama or Miami

etc.

I'm lost on the *** part. If you have 4 pods of 5 & are paired up with "Pod X", WHO is your "non-matching pod"...wouldn't you have a perm partner in all 3 other pods?
ex. Pod A Team 1
4 - Pod A Teams 2-5
5 - Pod B Teams 1-5
1 - Pod C Team 1
1 - Pod D Team 1
==============
11 games

I've heard "?" to be Virginia, Duke, Kansas, or WV.

Pod - Florida, Miami, Florida State, Clemson, and UNC would make for some good matchups.

Crossover games - Miami vs. Oklahoma, Clemson vs. USC, Florida vs. Georgia, UNC vs. Kentucky, FSU vs. Texas.

Then what term would you use?

Can't be "divisions" because that implies 2 equal sections made up of the entire conference.

Alabama for example

When matched up with TN pod, they play Texas in my example

When not matched up with TN, they play TN

Result:
Pod x 6 in 6 years
TN x 6 in 6 years
TX x 4 in 6 years
All others 2x in 6 years

I get that. So everybody has 1 perm. they play yearly & a 2nd perm they play twice every 3rd years.

Tn. (main)
Tx. (2nd)

Y1 (against Tn. Pod) - Tn. & Tx.
Y2 (against Tx. Pod) - Tx. & Tn.
Y3 (against last Pod) - Tn. only

I see that, but don't know why you wouldn't have a perm in all 3 other pods (other than that makes 11 conf. games).
*11 because any 2 conf. teams playing, to me, COUNT as conf. games.

10 is a lot, 11 is a shite ton.. I’m not saying I’m against it, but I can’t imagine that would ever get approved.. 10 might not either

You should with 9 games and 16 teams.

It would save most of the rivalry games and allow six permanent (every year) opponents

Bingo. I have a 4x4 pod/16 team plan that saved ALL annual rivalries at the cost of a 6 year full H/A cycle.

& now with more growth in the near future, what does that look like? At least with 20, it’s more balanced than 18.
