SEC chant
Why do we do it?
Because it absolutely pisses off the fans of all other conferences. Not only do we beat the snot out of you but then we let you know that not only is this team better than you but our whole conference is better than you!

On a somewhat related note, I could have sworn I could hear the OSU fans mockingly doing the "SEC" chant after they beat Arkansas the other night. Anyone else notice this?
I thought I heard this as well.

Was Kentucky doing it against Pitt during the fight?

Yeah, he texted me about it and that's where the discussion started.

Do you chant it?
I don't. I remember Georgia doing it to us in the '91 Independence Bowl. What a welcoming! From the outside, it's not impressive. I see it differently if it's a NC game.

1) The rest of the country comsistently shits on the South - frick 'em all!
2) A strong conference gives us a better reputation. Our wins mean more. Big Ten, how's that conference rep helping you with those Indiana wins?
3) Yes, a rival winning doesn't help us directly. However, when we go recruiting in Texas, do you want to play in the SEC or the Big XII?

The fact that you are arguing with a Penn State person lets you know it does exactly what we want it to do

I was told from friends at the game that this did happen.

If you want to BE the man, you gotta BEAT the man.
I want everyone in the SEC to win all their games... except the games they play against Florida. That way when we win a National Championship, no-one can say we got there on the back of a weak conference.
So hell yeah, S.E.C. S.E.C.

It's a brotherhood. It's domination. If Fl. doesn't get to the National Championship I will always pull for the representing SEC team. It's like hatred within a family but someone not in the family playing against family well...I hope they get their asses handed to them.

I had this arguement with a Notre Dumb fan. It was the year LSU played and killed them in a BCS game. He started hating on LSU and I told him that the Irish were going to get their asses kicked. He wanted to know why I cared being a Bama fan.
I told him that I did not like LSU, but I did have great respect for them b/c we played them every year. I also told him that LSU wasn't afraid to play anyone and that is what you get from an SEC team. Unlike his team that is to scared to join the Big 10.
Needless to say he didn't want to talk to me anymore.

It's just a difference in culture.
You know nothing about ND.

Saying a school like Notre Dame is scared to join a conference is like saying Les Miles is an intelligent human being who can properly read a clock.
Its called tradition, something a houndstooth clad Bammer should understand.

I didn't hear the LSU fans doing it last night.
'SEC' chant happened at the cotton bowl. I was in c136 about at the 45 yardline on the SEC side. A few people tried to get it started and it nearly caught, but not quite. At its peak there were probably 1500 people chanting 'SEC' while it lasted only about 20-30 seconds--if that.

That's it ! Summs it up.
Plus pride...pride playing in a conference where every win is big. in other conferences, every win is less deserving of the same respect
Conference Pride, we stick together root for each other, respect each other, etc..
