The SEC is the most 'put down' conference in college football. It has been the toughest conference in football for more than 10 yrs now and the powers that be didn't acknowledge this until maybe 2 yrs ago.
It takes other conferences 2 or 3 yrs to lose their lustre but critics are quick to put the SEC down such as this year.
There's a reason why there's so much solidarity in the SEC - the conference needs it in the face of anti- SEC bias.

I like the solidarity that it brings to the SEC when we're playing OOC teams, like in the BCS championship, but it does seem kinda dumb to yell that at an SEC vs SEC game. That being said, isn't it possible that fans were chanting "SEC" today when the ESPN mouths were blabbing about other games outside the SEC?

The SEC didn't look great this year except for UF and Bama, so if the Big 12 wins, it'll be hammer-on-the-SEC time in the media.

Bama fans will chant it. Im pretty sure we did it all the way back in 92 when we won the NC. I know we started chanting "Gino, Gino" and he put a towel around his head. But I digress...
The way I look at it is that we are all a bunch of brothers that will beat the shite out of each other just as soon as we would look at each other. If some outsider comes in and starts talking shite about one of our brothers, however, we will beat the shite out of him. I can talk shite about my brother, but you (non-SEC fan) sure as hell better not. If you do talk shite, it's on like donkey kong.
