why is LSU so much ahead of the rest of the pack.

Um, they are not!

LSU is always regarded as head and shoulders better.

Depends who you are talking to!

It all depends on what you are looking for. In the stands, I think LSU is probably one of the better in the country. On the field it changes for me a little bit.

I'm guessing most of the people in this thread don't have a clue of what they are talking about.

If LSU has 2 weeks to learn a show, stayed mostly sober for practice, and Linda Moorhouse didn't turn around and take a shite on the marching chart.....nobody in the county can march corps style with LSU period.

ETA: at the collegiate level....drum and bugle corps blow them away but thats kinda like comparing LSU football to the New England Patriots

It is what it is. Don't blame me if you have absolutely nothing to brag about.

almost as sad as trolling on an opponent's message board all day every day saying the same thing over and over as if you say it enough it will become true?

how is it different?

in the 60s there were no scholarship limitations in football. so bear signed however many he wanted. but LSU fans say he cheated.

in the 00s there are no scholarship limitations for band. so LSU's band director decides to give out schollys. thus Im saying LSU's band cheated.

do you see the similarity? can you comprehend it?

You'd be right.

LSU's band is very good but its not "head and shoulders" above the rest in the SEC. Not to mention that there isnt the talent despairity from D-1 schools to D-2 like there is in athletics. Some of the best college bands in the country are at small, relatively unknown schools

Of course we have to have some parameters set here it is a helluva lot easier to create, teach, and perfect a show with 100 people than with 330 people. In bands of like sizes I would put LSU up against any corps style college band on the field any day of the week. And yes I know a little of what I speak considering I lived it for 4.5 years.

he did a LOT more than that. He admitted to SI he bought players in 1966. even as low as to use the GI Bill.

Between football and band scholarships? No I do not see the similarity and no I cannot comprehend it.

Agreed.

But Im not comparing 100 piece bands to 330. Im referring to small schools that also have around 330.

meh... depends on the shows difficulty and execution of the following (arrangement, drill, intonation, phrasing, instrumentation)

Such a bold statement is hard to back-up given all of these criteria.

And yes I know a little of what I speak considering I lived it for 4.5 years.

As do I, Marched in TGBFTL for 2 years then went to another band for 3 more....

Very difficult for Tiger band to get correct especially if all we are preparing for is a football game. Although I can tell you the morning that they recorded the video to send to the Sudler trophy comittee in 2001 is the best that I have ever heard Tiger Band sound and look. That is what I would send to competition be it live or video. We knew that week that we were preparing to record a video to send to the "National Championship" of collegiate marching bands. With that pressure and those expectations on us we performed at a high level that I would put up against anyone.

i dont know shite about bands, other than its their job to get the crowd going and cheering. LSU is the best at this IMO.

I hate the fact that there is no front ensemble at LSU. I also think LSU is a little to brass heavy. Woodwinds and the softer voices totally get drowned out.

I'd say Bama is closer to a DCI corp than LSU. The problem is, the average college football fan doesn't understand or like it. Bama fans prefer a park and blow with expolsions and shite.

A lot of it comes down to what individuals perfer. I hated the Cadets show last year! HATED IT! Was it bad, no! It was great show, but I didn't like it. I think a lot of people judge college bands like that.

Most of the time I can not argue with this however I have been in some show where the woodwinds were featured and it was completely awesome.....great mix in those show.

There is absolutely no doubt about this which is why most time you don't hear the woodwinds because most people want the band to just be the loudest......but as a trumpet player I believe there is a time and place for that as well
