That was someone jumping the gun on a radio rumor.

Is he a serious candidate, or has that ship sailed?... with his connections to saban and the college game, he'd seem like a good fit.

He could be, but I think the fact Saban had offered the job to Elliott means Hill wasn't currently mulling an offer.
Seems to be Brent Key and Mario Cristobal right now, but neither have been formally offered yet.

Cristobal was just hired at Miami, I believe... would be a very good hire, but I doubt he'd jump after a couple weeks in coral gables.

He's actually interviewing, so there's some interest.

It was a nice compliment that Saban paid Elliott and the Gamecocks, just as Florida did Brad Lawing. Difference is that Shawn is not being stalked by his bat shite crazy ex wife wanting more alimony and child support.

Assistant football coach Shawn Elliott issued the following statement today:
"It was a great honor to be considered for a coaching position at the University of Alabama, but I feel it's in the best interest of me and my family to remain at South Carolina. We've had a lot of success here over the past three years and I'm committed to being part of that continued success for many years. I'm proud to be a Gamecock."

Not sure why we would want a former NBA star on our staff?

I'm glad that Elliot chose to remain with our staff...in 2012 he had Cann, Patrick, Johnson, and Robinson starting for him. Johnson was recruited primarily by Hunt, and the others were by Wolford. Next season, only Patrick will be a senior on our OL roster, only because he lost his red-shirt in 2010. Cann, Robinson, Gibson will be 4th yr. juniors and Matulis a true, 3rd-yr. junior...
I would like to see Elliot be able to send out a starting 5 at OL that was predominantly upperclassmen that he recruited and developed, and see what he does with them. He's had to ride through a transition where we were regularly starting true freshmen and RS-freshmen, and our depth overall was pretty thin.
So I have kind of held back my overall grade of Elliot as a OL coach until he's had a chance to send the best possible unit out on the field. It should be coming over the next 2 seasons....

I agree, Elliot is the most important unknown (outside of Colo) person in the gamecock program. I think losing him would have been worse than losing Lattimore.
