Southern can steal our players.

Really? The team that's one hour away is less of a recruiting threat than the team that's 4.5 hours away?

Again, OM is scared to play USM. That's the end of the discussion.

LSU plays in state opponents every year. Florida plays their in state rivals.

LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee and Florida have or will (LSU '09) play USM. Everyone of those schools have come to south Mississippi to get recruits out of USM's backyard, so they all recruit against USM.

If you USM is in the same conference as Memphis. That's never stoppped OM from playing Memphis.

You mean the same Memphis that we are dropping after this season? We've been wanting to drop them in football ever since they dropped us in basketball. Our contract was shitty and we had to finish it out.

Quit making excuses and admit that OM is basically being a bitch because they're scared they'll lose and it will hurt recruiting.

USM and Memphis are just the same to Ole Miss. Meaningless if we win and admittedly embarrassing if we lose.

I'd rather play one tough OOC team and 3 complete pansy money games. Which is another reason why we are going to let MSU "support" Memphis's football program from now on.

But like I said....I'd be ok with either just playing in Oxford from time to time or a 2-1 series with USM spread out over 5-6 years. But USM wants none of that. They want a 1-1 series. And why should we lose a home game every other year to fill up their POS stadium.

OM is dropping Memphis because they're pissed Mem dropped OM in basketball. It's not because OM is scared to lose to Memphis the way they are to USM.

Now we can carry on a rational conversation. I totally agree with you on the 1-1 BS. No way OM or MSU should do a 1-1 with USM. 2-1 or 1-0 every few years. If USM won't take that offer then they don't really want to play MSU or OM.

well.....yea. That's my entire point. But Ole Miss isn't scared of USM.

This is why Ole Miss doesn't want to play USM. They keep using that "anytime, anyplace" crap except they keep forgetting about the anyplace part.

Trust me, No Ole Miss fan is scared of USM.

it's just a lose-lose scenario for both USM and MSU

Terrible idea, especially for MSU and the SEC. Southern Miss, the majority of the time, will beat the shite out of State. And even if they do, it will be a terrible quality opponent, which will actually hurt their computer rankings.

I beg to differ. It's a lose-lose for MSU and a win-lose, possibly a win-win depending on $$$, for USM.

Won't necessarily matter depending on the quality of the SEC opponents they play. Our worst is better than any other conferences worst.

I think that the computer rankings effect teams in other conferences more than it does SEC teams.

It would make much more sense for Ole Miss to schedule a home and home with USM than it would for State. The series would actually be fairly competitive, though I believe USM would win the majority of the time.

I love the fact that Ole Miss will go play at Memphis and State will go to Houston and La Tech but yet will not agree to play Southern. I have never understood that.

We couldn't get out of our contract until this year and are dropping them after this year. I love the fact that you lack reading comprehension.

And I could care less about where MSU plays at. But I think it's stupid to go play at Houston and La Tech. Ole Miss made a stupid mistake years back when we agreed to a 2-1 with Arky State. That was a terrible idea.

I would consider a 2-1 spread out over 5-6 years to be an incredible compromise with USM.

I didnt read the entire thread. Just the first page. So you can keep your insults to yourself.

Both State and Ole Miss have traveled to play far shittier teams than Southern yet never want to schedule them. There is no excuse in this except your AD is a pussy.

And dont give me the you are too good to come to Hattiesburg. I seem to remember Nebraska in Hatty.

And Cal.

And Texas A an M.

It is possible for a 3rd person observer to understand why we don't play USM?

It has nothing to do with Hattiesburg or having a "pussy" for an AD. We will never play USM in football. We have nothing to gain by playing them. We are canceling the Memphis series because of similar reasons.

Since the USM/OM matchup that everyone wants to see is never going to happen, what's the point of even speculating? It's all nonsense. Is this some kind of sick joke?

You fail to see the difference. It helps those three teams play there to help establish new recruiting grounds. It doesn't help MSU or Ole Miss.

And the AD who stopped playing USM is long gone.

I hear that alot. What do you have to gain in playing Norther Arizona? Or South East Louisiana?

Exactly. So why do we specifically have to play USM again?

Northern Arizona was a big FUBAR created by ESPN and compounded by our administration.

SELa charges us less money and doesn't ask for a return trip. It basically creates a bye-week that week and lets our backups gain experience. USM won't play in Oxford ONLY unless we throw ungodly amounts of money at them........and even then I doubt they would except.
