For every Roll Tide Willie there are 110,601 other Roll Tide Willie’s in Tuscaloosa, according to the census

Yet sadly, his intellectual capacity exceeds that of the average LDU fan residing in Louisiana.

who are they?

At 6-foot-3 and 6-foot-4, respectively -- and with a good 570 pounds between the two of them -- Jerry Bogle and Troy Ferguson could have filled in along the defensive line at Alabama. But “The Big Dogs” from Scottsboro, as Bogle and Ferguson were known, did their barking up in the stands.

Throughout the 1980s and ’90s, the towering Alabama superfans arrived at nearly every game, home and away, decked out in red britches with red suspenders, wearing wide-body ties and holding up “Roll Tide” signs they made from toilet paper rolls and Tide detergent boxes.

The TV cameras couldn’t miss them, of course.

But while they were a couple of good-natured goofballs on the surface -- “the Laurel and Hardy of Crimson Tide football,” The Birmingham News called them in a 1993 feature story -- their love for the University of Alabama was genuine.

Both worked as football and basketball referees for 27 years.

"We met back in the late 70s," Ferguson said. "We were refereeing a ballgame together and talked about going to the Alabama game the next day. From that point on, Jerry and I went to just about every home and away game."

Regardless of how the Crimson Tide fared each season, they remained a die-hard fans.

"We've met millions of people," Ferguson said. "We've had the opportunity to travel to several different universities and meet a lot of great people."

Dang, I'm old.

McAfee and Willie would've created quite the scene

A little embarrassing at times but would have been entertaining as hell. McAfee would have gotten Willie all fired up.

I mean I'm sure Ms Terry will be fine but that could have been an all time spectacle.

Hey, have some respect. Jerry is Tuscaloosa's dad.

And that is what he'd say every selection except for the Bama game.

As much as I hate him having a platform, at least his message is clear (even if often slurred) and consistent. And, I guess it's no worse than many of the Hollywood/Musician idiots having a platform in political opinions.

He's funny and is a legitimate fan, CFB seems to be about everything but the fans these days so it's good that a fan gets a platform.

As soon as I hit submit on that "infinite recursive" comment I was waiting for you to show up.
