I haven't thought this out yet so you guys might give me a really obvious answer to it but, how does Cal recruit with all the question marks about who is coming back? With so many potential one and dones, how do you know what kind of numbers you need before the season is over and kids make their decisions? I mean, Cal could think he needs to fill 5 slots while he's recruiting, but then all of a sudden EVERYONE decides to come back, do you have room to still take those 5 commits? I don't know that you are quite in this situation this year with who may now come back, but that has to play hell on Cal trying to figure out how many spots he has to fill each year when he can't know how many spots are opening until the season is over and most recruiting is already done.

He will force kids to transfer, tell them that they wont have a scholly waiting for the next year, etc. He goes into the year anticipating that this will happen. There are ways to clear your roster for upgraded talent.

He's going to cut Harrow and Wiltjer under the guise of transferring because UK "wasn't right for them".

It is quite clear that several UK players are not UK quality. I suspect that Cal will recruit the players he wants this year and that they all know that they are not facing much competition for playing time next year. I suspect that several of the underachievers this year will be shown the writing on the wall and decide to seek their basketball fortunes elsewhere.

Kids see that happening too much though and don't you risk the next wave of kids not coming in for fear they'll be treated the same way? Or are all their egos so big they don't think it could happen to them?

It might be, but thats the world of upper college athletics. Especially to a guy like Caliparri, this is a business.

Every elite kid thinks they will breeze through. Family, to scouts, to AAU coaches have told them that they are shoe-ins to the NBA. Hence why they are usually never concerned about competing for a spot.

We have three walk ons that have one year scholarships. Beckham and Mays are out of eligibility. Noel and WCS will be lottery picks. Plenty of room for next seasons recruits, and a couple of walk ons may still have scholarships.

This.

Plus every year he has purposely not filled all of his scholarships (aside from walk-ons obviously) in case something like this was to happen.

The only drawback right now (and I appreciated WCS clarifying with the "I need to talk to my family first and get an evaluation" comments) is some guys may be talking out of pure post-game emotion and that could possibly cost us someone like Randle.

That's apparently what they said. Let's see what they do when their minds start thinking about $$$ and not on an embarrassing loss. I imagine 1 or 2 of them still go into the draft.

They all made comments after the game last night saying they weren't ready to go pro. I don't necessarily hold them to that and WCS backtracked a little bit saying that he would need to sit down with his family first and made a decision based upon the evaluation he gets from "testing the waters". I think WCS will find out his stock is high enough to go and won't return. Poythress and Goodwin are going to have to decide whether they're willing to ride the pine if they play like they did this season.

The one that surprised me the most though was that Harrow came out and said he would have no problem backing someone else up at PG and has no intention of transferring.

That makes sense. And I really wasn't so much thinking just this years situation, but in general. Seems it would be difficult to know how many players you need to bring in while you're recruiting in 2020 if you don't know if you're going to have to replace 1 or 5 kids until April of 2021.

And the other issue they will have is that their playing time will likely go down with those top 5 guys coming in (don't think Derek Willis will see much PT) and the probable addition of Wiggins.

At the same time though, they can show how well they play with other talented players and that could help out
