Bruce Thornton started as a mediocre running back that turned into a lockdown corner for us his senior year.

Brandon Miller was completely underwhelming at LB for 3 frickin years before we moved him to DE and he did ok. Better than LB anyway.

Richard Samuel moved to LB but redshirted and then after that moved back to RB, so no net gain

OP- Smelly was a QB moved to TE.

Yeah, but he wasn't recruited as a QB and never worked with the QBs at Bama. He just played it in HS.

Though he never played the position in college, David Pollack was recruited as a Fullback, then was switched to DT his freshman year and moved out to DE his Sophomore year.

Corey Webster started out as a receiver, but moved to DB and had a lot of success.

Joseph Barksdale was a DT and switched to OT.

as did Will Blackwell & Carnell Stewart but none played a down of defense at LSU.

Stephen Peterman, who now starts for Detroit at OG, played TE & DE his freshman year. LSUSports.com

Jason Witten went from DE to TE.

He's been alright, 7 pro bowls, 5 times all-pro, fastest TE to 600 receptions, etc.

A long time ago, probably before your time, but Tommy Wilcox changed from QB to Safety and earned some All American awards if I remember correctly

All of that and he may be the most underrated player in the NFL for the duration of his career.

Corey Webster for LSU. I believe he started out at a WR and Saban switched him over to CB. Turned out to be a great decision that played a pivotal role in LSU winning a national championship in '03.

Nowhere near the hype of Gonzales & Gates and now Gronkowski & Jimmy Graham.
