How myopic of you. The "pc crowd" doesn't base their opinions and claims primarily on that of football. Sure, some (Tommy Tuberville, for example) have said that certain bits of Old South imagery have hurt Ole Miss' recruiting, and we all know that State has for decades been telling recruits that we're racist (some of the stuff posted on CJ Johnson's wall was evidence enough of that), but these changes have as much to do with fundraising and academics as they do with football.
It absolutely has everything to do with recruiting plus giving the school a mascot it can (hopefully) make money off of. At least now, the administration won't be able to use symbols as an excuse for us not winning championships. They have been doing this since the late 1970's all the while conveniently ignoring the fact of the facilities arms race that we were losing in the SEC.

There is no doubt the names "Rebels" and "Ole Miss" will be gone in a few short years. The younger posters on here have not been around as long as I have and Have not heard the continuous LIES from the administration concerning our symbols. It was only 8 short years ago that the chancellor flat out said that "Colonel Reb will always be our mascot and "Dixie" would always be played". It's true that "Dixie" is still played but not for long. All of this started in 1979 when Traveler was banned from the sidelines. Traveler was a stallion that was named after Robert E. Lee's horse. It continued in the 1980's with the disassociation of the university with the confederate flag culminating with a ban in 1997. The 1990's also saw more things like Colonel Reb disappearing on a lot of merchandise, confederate themed streets on campus were renamed (Confederate Drive was renamed All-American Drive)
Finally 2003 arrives and they announce (between summer school sessions) that Colonel Reb will not be on the sidelines anymore.
ALl of the symbols including the name "Ole Miss" are going to be gone. It's best they just finish it off than doing this piecemeal shite IMO.
I'm not saying some things didn't need changing but no one should kid themselves that this will be the end. We've been hearing this was the end since 1997.

I'm already quite happy. I don't need insignificant symbols to love my alma mater.
Troll harder.

No it doesn't, and if you can't see that then you're just being a stubborn a-hole. The removal of the confederate flag, Dixie, etc., has much more to do with academic fundraising, hiring professors, and securing corporate donations than it does with football.

they have bent over backwards to be pc and give up their history
What "history?"
Ole Miss' football teams were known as the Mississippi Flood until the 1930's. Before that they were called simply "the red and blue." Their logo consisted of a block letter "M" and an all-seeing eye (a lot like what's on the dollar... Ole Miss fans, look at the floor in Martindale, that symbol used to be on pennants and flags and stuff).
And, regarding Colonel Reb, he wasn't a mascot until the 1970's. I don't really get the "history" and "tradition" angle here.

to many ole miss fans are liberals
First of all, the word is "too," and if you think Ole Miss fans are liberal then you're even dumber than you look. Ole Miss is consistently ranked by the Princeton Review as one of the most conservative college campuses in America.
And, really, stop taking a non-political issue and turning it into one.

Yall let opposing fans run out onto the field at V-HS? That's pretty cool.
Of course they do, their are no Bear fans in VHS by the end of a Bear game anyway. We do what ever we want. That's why Mullen said ANY stadium in MS is our home field.

You giuys will have to change your uniforms. Can't have a black bear with red/blue.

It was the state flag before the current flag was adopted.
